My first romp to 1000 feet. I hadn't read the spoilers on HallucinationMushroom's character, so I basically did a tour of the entirety of the level looking for clues. Exchange Places is definitely a lifesaver. Sprinting is good too down there to get a better position. Next time, I hope I'll be able to score me a Silmaril.

I wonder if I could've done it if I had gotten the Song of Lorien rather than Song of Este at 1000 feet.

Maybe, but your song might be a bit too low to overcome Morgoth's 20 Will (+ distance penalty). If you didn't see something special happen during your fight with Morgoth, your damage output was most likely too low, though you should get a lot of criticals with your high melee score. In that case song of sharpness might have been a good choice, that would have stacked with the sharpness of Anglachel, reducing armour to another 1/3 for a total of 1/6 with your song score.

This character is perhaps a good reason for lowering the necessary damage output, as you have a very good setup, but would have a little too much difficulty achieving what you need (maybe less than 10% of your attacks would work).

Great work by the way! It is nice to see the little screenshot of your battle with Morgoth and the destruction wrought therein.

Good going here! I like your self-made artefacts. What happened to the feanorian lamp you made?

On 19.1.2012 14:37 mtadd wrote:
This was my first smith, so I borked up my Feanorian Lamp when in Artifice I added Increase Grace, the smithing cost shot way up (i think the smithing cost was around 43), so I lowered the Special Bonus from 3 to 1, which resulted in a lowered light radius (from 3 to 1) that was completely negated by my Shadow Cloak. So, I ditched the Feanorian Lamp and went back to a Lantern. Later on, I created a Brass Lantern artifact <+1> with Increase/Sustain Grace, and Perception:Eye for Detail, whose Light Radius was 3. I think its smithing cost was 27.

I did dance toe-to-toe with Morgoth a good long while, but never landed a strong enough hit. I had a huge supply of potions, probably around 7 potions of Constitution and 9 potions of healing and Mirovur (sp?) combined, so was able to sustain a +3 constitution and get good returns on healing.

Song of Sharpness would've made the difference there, as Satyr noted.

The entire level had been torn to shreds by earthquakes as I sprinted from one chamber to another to see what was around. Its

Wow, impressive character! That ring of accuracy is nice!

I can't help but chuckle though... you're dying message is golden. "You begin a song about gentle growth and recovery. You die." That is good stuff right there.

I hadn't thought about the interaction between the pval and the light radius on artefact lights before. I'll probably hard code in their default light radii to remove this issue.

Also the fact that you fought Morgoth for a long time without anything happening shows that we at least need some small changes there. As Scatha said, there is some special play needed at the Throne Room, but it isn't meant to be a trick. I'll make it a bit more natural for 1.0.2.

Oh, thanks for the warning here! I was probably going to make myself an artefact Feanorian lamp in exactly the same vein with my character, Felagund. I'll be careful now.

It was my first trip down to 1000 feet. I wasn't expecting a win right off the bat. I wasn't even prepared to watch for a message regarding Morgoth's crown being knocked off either, so I may have done it, but not even noticed due to the message spam resulting from Whirlwind attacks (not that it did happen, mind you, but it could've). Does Morgoth's monster description get updated if he loses his crown, so that if you miss the message and don't see the crown due to earthquakes, you can still infer that he's dropped it if you look at him at a later date?

On 19.1.2012 17:43 half wrote:
Yes, it does get updated, and he loses [1d4] protection too!

Holy smokes, your character notes read like a "Who's Who" of Morgoth's minions. Nice one.
