My attempt at being a 'lore-master' melee character. Was doing well until I got trapped between two distended spiders with only 1 Orcish Liquor left.

By the way, what is the best race to pick for the 'Bane' ability? I chose Orcs because it would help me get rid of them right away.

Note that I was eventually able to free myself by killing one of the two Distended spiders. After that, I used the last Orcish Liquor and it was too late.

And no, I didn't use the Potions of Slow Poison because they were unidentified at the time of death. Maybe I should have used those, when I had nothing to lose.

In the early game, I assume any non-murky-brown potions that I've picked up the most of to be slow poison :)

Debo's assumption is a good one. It is a good idea to identify it early, which means drinking candidate potions while poisoned. How to get poisoned? There are a number of ways, including drinking other potions.

As for Bane, it really depend upon the character and how far you are likely to get. If you character is naturally weak against wolves, for example, you might want to become Wolfbane. If you don't get very far usually, don't get something like Raukobane.
