I didn't intend to make a smith with this guy, but the rng has been bullying me into it. He sent me Telchar, then gloves of forging +3 and has provided a fair number of forges and a decent number of revelation staves. This is my best ever smith, and am going to ponder on what to make next. I'm currently standing on a 3 use forge and have a pretty good bit of time stashed away to find more forges. I burned through a large number of consumables, and 12,000 xp I had been saving, in the Lungorthin/Gothmog fight. But, hey, they're dead and I'm not. Any advice welcome. I have to keep fighting the urge to put a point of Con on everything... I love me some hitpoints. A cloak of fire/cold resist would probably be smart... Rpoison is also needed. Forging is a lot of fun!

Facepalm. Major facepalm. Just, wow. I had just nabbed the armor of Maeglin too! My smithing was at 30 with all my gear on... next up was two +2 str rings at a 2 use forge I just detected. After that, was hoping to find at least two more 3 use forges. One for boots of haste and one for my masterpiece mattock. I was hoping to give it +2 to str, 26lb. vampirism and whatever else I could fit on. I was truly shocked when I died. I just didn't think I was in danger there... guess I should've made something with extra fire resist. Man, I'll never have this much luck again.

Ahhh, I see now! Why was I using that greatsword?! I thought I had on Telchar and my shield. I forgot after I charged a nameless to death with the greatsword to put back on Telchar, or at least the ring of frost. *sigh*

I was bemused when I first saw the artefact hammer you'd made: surely, I thought, that's not enough of an upgrade from Telchar's hammer to be worth the switch. And why put a combat ability (two-weapon fighting) on it?

... and then enlightenment dawned. Very clever! A shame about the death.

Yes, I'd never thought of that fine tuning approach either. Don't tell Psi!

I'm obviously not clever enough! I had twoweapon naturally on my Strongmad character and realized at the forge that I should've kept a spear of the vanyar that I had found to go with my Dagmor sword. Yeah, I bet Psi could churn out two of those -4,+4 hammers of his for sure. I constantly felt a little behind on smithing ability with this guy. 30 seems like a very good sweet spot to make interesting artifacts with enough smithing in the tank for a pretty good masterpiece later. Not too shabby for a non singing smith. The proper smiths on the ladder seem to synergize the song of aule with grace and smithing very effectively.

Ha ha - wish I'd thought of that!

It is worth noting that the Song of Aule was considerably better in the 1.0.1 version, it is still worth using for Smiths who have an independent interest in Song, but probably not otherwise.
