My first time past 300', and going pretty smoothly until I got chased into an awkward situation. Another forge would have been handy; I didn't have the XP for anything but basic weapons when I found my first one.

That is a great round shield of protection! I've never seen a round shield hit 1d5 before.

Getting surrounded like that is bad, for sure. But I'd say one other thing you could improve on is taking fewer abilities and putting more points in melee. Unless you're going for a pure-stealth build, having less than 10 melee from the very beginning is going to make life hard for you.

With high melee, you shouldn't need Sprinting until ~400' or so, IMO -- and even then, it's optional as you get a better feeling for things.

It also helps to increase Evasion at the same rate as Melee, if Melee is at 10, I'd increase Evasion to 10, or try to keep both at the same amount. Just my own opinion. With an Evasion of 3, you're more susceptible to hits.

For this reason, I personally think that greaves, great helms, and studded leather aren't worth it -- the extra -1 to evasion isn't a great tradeoff relative to the little bit of (potential) extra protection you get.
