First attempt at a smith-stabber. Usually I just put 2 points to get weaponsmith and that's it.

My goal with this guy is to have my final weapon be a dagger. I was drilling the endgame with a savescummer, and on one of my experiences I used a 1.0lb forged artifact shortsword (sharpness, +dex). W/ rapid attack, the damage was insane. But he had 2 base strength.

Anyhow, my plan is to pump dex out the ears and then make a 0.5lb dagger that has sharpness and other goodies. I want to see if I can cause a buffer overrun w/ the number of '!'s I inflict on unwary monsters :)

This is all very premature since he'll probably die before I find another forge lol

Hmmn, just did some quick math and discovered that a dagger at 0.4lbs isn't really that much better at getting criticals than a weapon of 1.0lbs... you need a really high attack roll for all those differences of 0.6 to really add up :)

Let's just see what happens, shall we?

The best I have done is a branded 1d9 sharp 1lb shortsword. If you are not going to pump your strength to 3 or 4, then 0.9lb removes any penalties from rapid attack.

I think I got up to around 13 !s

We're aware that daggers are just a little bit too weak -- they should be a viable option for this kind of build, but it doesn't quite seem to work out. They might get a helpful tweak at some point if we can find a natural way to do that.

Have fun, anyhow!

@Psi -- yeah, that's my current plan, assuming I can come up with the smithing chops to do it. I've found Orodruth on my last 3 games, so hoping for repeat #4 with that :)

@Scatha -- I think I saw an artifact with SHARPNESS2 available on it -- one way to beef daggers might be to allow them to have SHARPNESS2 as an option when forging an artifact, possibly for a reasonable cost. This would differentiate them from shortswords, as they'd potentially dodge protection better but have fewer damage sides overall.

But IANAGD (I am not a game designer) :D
