A 12 smithing start. The whole game has been kind of slow, but a lot of fun. I have pretty much cleared all the levels, killing everything. I have found tons of great stuff. I am most at home with high protection, and no, that is not a blocking protection... that would be 12-45, I think. If I can come across the fairly common 1d2 protection rings, 11-39, here I come! If I could find another forge, I need to add 1 pound to my helmet for 75, and another protection point.

Question: Is there any use to having an extra feanorian lamp? I've heard of others having an extra for some purpose.

This is amazeballs. Now you just need a weapon that doesn't suck.

I never encountered anything that made me lose a lamp, I only keep spares as long as I don't have enough oil for a brass lamp or when the lamp has an additional function (artefact). You could smelt it and your mithril longsword and save one equipment slot without losing mithril that you might want for smithing a better weapon.

I'd save it to drop on the ground when Gwathrauko show up. I'm pretty sure Feanorian Lamps glow even when dropped, and they're radius 3. Your light radius / power sucks for 800' lol

Do feanorian lamps stack? Lesser jewels do, but I don't know whether lesser jewels are worth it against Gwathraukos.

I realize that I almost always had listen when very deep either as ability or by Curufin - with good ears you don't need light that much.

Don't you listen to him Protart, you *are* very strong. Shhh Debo, you are going to hurt his feelings! Haha. Yeah, 2d11 isn't so good, I need a 3dx.

Yeah, I have to agree with taptap on the listen chiefly because you can never really get enough light to always be protected against darkness. I had a silmaril once and still got completely enveloped. This is maybe the first time I didn't get inner light. I should probably pump perception up if I'm going to rely on it though, but for now I usually see the asterisk.

Song of staying would be cool... but I doubt I'll break my 13-55 (blocking) record with this guy. That didn't work so well last time.

Ha, I don't know if I will take any singing. If I sang slaying+sharpness, I think I could win if I found or made a 3d5 4-5 lb weapon and took rapid attack, got the str point, made base melee +22 or so and maybe upped evasion a little. I'm tempted not to sing for thematic reasons. The whole time I've been playing, I feel like I'm in man-mode or something. Singing might ruin the mood. Without singing I couldn't do it.

Hmmm. Calris kills things fast, but your protection isn't quite as uncanny anymore and your evasion is atrocious :). I wonder if this will work. Only one way to find out :)

Man, I just Roflstomped 900 and 950... but to be fair, no uniques other than Drauglin who fell in 3 quick strokes. I killed a great white drake, is an awesome power check. I decided that singing was manly. :/

I need woven themes, a little more singing power, opportunist-rapid attack, more melee ability.

*HM walks into throne room with Calris*

Morgoth: *snort* wuzzat

HM: "PREPARE TO MEET YOUR DOOM!" *brandishes his flaming sword*

Morgoth: "GOTHMOGGGGGGGGGGG!"

*Gothmog hurries into the room, downtrodden*

Gothmog: "Y...yes, boss?"

Morgoth: "WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT LEAVING YOUR SWORDS LYING AROUND?"

Gothmog: "Um... I..."

Morgoth: "It's GIANT and ON FIRE. Like your MOTHER. Can't you keep track of it for even a second?"

Gothmog: "It's not my fault! Dagorhir asked to borrow it, and you know how -"

Morgoth SLAPS Gothmog across the face.

Morgoth: "I don't want to hear it. Go take care of this nuisance, I've still got my cheese plate to take care of."

HM: "Um, can we get on with this please?"

*end of act one*

lol, good stuff! Gothmog turned out to be harder to kill than Morgoth since he showed up after my voice died. It must have been the slap of awesomeness Morgy transferred...

I was still fighting him for many rounds when Glaurung showed up, killed Glaurung, and I was still fighting Gothmog. I burned 5 or 6 major heal, had to reactivate all my stat potions and 2 or 3 quickness potions. It didn't help that those capital green H's (That is the official name) kept showing up.

Did you have any !Voice at disposal? How many of each stat potion did you have?

I think it was 5 quick, 3 str, 4 dex, 2 con (this made me a little nervous on when to pop them), 3 grace, 5 rage, 2 murivor, 5 herb heals (beware gorge), 5 healing potions, 1 voice, 2 elemental resistances, 2 liquors (only useful if no rage to counter fear).

I have pulled off the throne room with much less before... I think for how I play, focusing on carnage as my main means of defense for the throne-room that is... my bare minimums would be 1 rage shroom, 1 quickness potion, 3 good heals, 1 con. That might not be enough, but those are required for me at the very least.

It's funny how my potential Morgoth slayers have way more consumables. Yet, I can't seem to scratch .that punk at all, not even one star in 1.1.1

Are you singing the slaying song? If so, are you also singing sharpness? If so, are you attacking twice, or three times a round? Are you hasted from potion? Those are essentials for me. I will go into further description, but it's really all about the song.

The ramp up of carnage from song of slaying hits ridiculous proportions once your song score hits about 13. It is a super overpowered ability. The first kill nets you +2, and because you get swarmed so quickly, and if you are killing quickly, it becomes +20 in no time flat. With grace potion, your sharpness is at song 12 as a minor theme, which is the score necessary to turn any weapon into a virtual Anglachel... it halves protection. I'm pretty sure I hit a few criticals with Calris, and it weighs 11 lbs. Without singing, I couldn't kill Morgy. In earlier editions, though I didn't get an official victory with it, I could charge+knockback to kill Morgy without song.

I know Psi, Debo, likely others can kill Morgy without singing, but if song gets nerfed... I'll have to go back to drawing board.

I don't know if this helps, and I didn't check your characters, but you don't seem like the type to sing... your characters are way more archetype warrior than even mine!

I've never killed him without sharpness before (i either had it on my weapon or the song.) I also suck at this game lol, I'm quite sure you have many more wins than I do.

I've found sharpness, concentration, and rapid attack are enough to take him down with a big weapon user, provided I am buffed and I have good perception. Song of slaying makes it way easier.

Hugo, miruvor also restores voice if you can't afford the inventory space for !Voice.

Wait, what?! Miruvor restores voice. I had no clue. And, I'm just a one trick pony, but, what a fun one trick it is! Yeah, I remember you told me you used Saithnar without song of slaying. If I could be guaranteed a black blade maybe I could swing a non-singing victory... or Saithnar!

Song changed afaik, it is always at least 50% - for people who get the song abilities by artefact or was this only true for other songs?

I'f I'm understanding correctly, are you saying that sharpness is a guaranteed 50% protection reduction? It could be... I often play with misconceptions and bad data! From what I remember, I saw in the manual sometime back that song ability at 12 = 50% reduction, which usually isn't a problem since to get sharpness you've got 10 points in song already, plus your native grace. But, a woven theme is sung at -5 song ability.

Or are you talking about something else. Again, I'm often wrong. Never come to me for *actual* information. I play mostly from experience, intuition and alcohol.

But, the sharp weapons are all guaranteed 50% reduction, except for Angrist which is 100%. The reduction stacks with song, so if you have Anglachel and sing sharpness well, you get close to removing all protection.

I think what taptap is referring to is that some of the songs (este, trees, etc.) would actually have zero or negative effect if you sang them at song skill levels below their req. (e.g. if you found barahir and tried to sing Este with 0 song, you would actually STOP regenerating altogether.)

I don't think this affected song of sharpness, though, so you still need the 12 for 50% effect or whatever. It's still useful even if you're knocking like 25% off the enemy's protection.
