Sil is great, because it allows for your natural roguelike impulses to take fruition. I am not a stealth player. I have bashed my head against a wall over and over again to try and incorporate some stealth into my play. I think the only thing that I enjoy, after perhaps 100 dead stealth-lite characters, is cruel blow. Stealth is not fun. Avoiding fights is not fun. Stealing loot is somewhat fun. Stealth killing is mighty fun. Being gimped from spending a lot of points into stealth is not fun.

The major problem for me, is that I want everything to die, whether it makes sense or is profitable or not. So, I might stealth kill a monster here, a monster there, but I am not stealth killing everything... something eventually wakes up. And I want to kill those too.

I think I will make a series of characters that only purchases cruel blow and see how often monsters of note reel in pain.

I had several very deep characters with it (on the ladder) rushing for subtlety/flanking at the earliest possible time but lost to really stupid things like attacking big white D without freedom of action (w/ high evasion/low armour). Perfectly capable of obliterating the throne room and at least getting a Sil, maybe more in the hand of a better player. Combines well with either flanking or concentration and for the flanking and bonus attack variant with song of slaying.

When you build that way, you will drop this unbalanced, super heavy sword you have (Orcrist) without much ado :)
