Then the Angband phenomenon asserted itself: He was doing quite well and, you know, then there was this spectacular lucerne hammer of Westernesse and, well, I was curious to see how far he could get with it, so, after all, I might as well try a few more levels and... The turn count is probably ludicrous, but I am determined to win this game with this character! There have been only two really dangerous situations so far: Firstly, when Lorgan teleported me into his room and then summoned reinforcements, one of which was a dread which I could not see. Secondly, while fighting an OOD ancient multi-hued dragon and an OOD death drake at the same time. Nothing that a !Speed , a ?Teleport and a bit of luck could not handle, though.

As to the Battle Axe of Balli Stonehand: Valuable as it may be, I think I am currently better off with Gurthang. We will see after the end of my shopping tour.

The encounter with Harowen reminded me that I wanted to exchange my rod of WoR for a couple of ?WoR, in case I have a really unlucky encounter with thieving opponents. Besides, that gives me an additional slot for hauling out loot back to town.

Is it just me or does the quality and variety of shop items decline over time? It has been several trips to the dungeon now since I could restock my potions of Heroism and scrolls of Holy Word. Having said that, it seems that many midgame characters do without these. Do I overestimate their importance for this stage of the game?

Paurnen: Essentially the same as my caestus of Slaying, only with an activatable minor acid attack. It can't be harmed by acid, however, so I'm going to keep them.

The Main Gauche of Azaghal: Definitely inferior to everything else I have at my disposal, even though it's my very first item in any Angband to grant an immunity.
mithril shod boots of Speed (+6): That's a difficult one. Is the net speed gain of +3 worth the loss of 2 Dex and 2 stealth? Well, it should be manageable with ESP and two rods of Detection.
