Currently at clvl 20, using Malediction/Orb of Entropy/Nether bolts as primary offense spells, AC 55, -1 Base Speed, 180 MaxHP, and 139 mana.

I decided to give krazyhades' Athena Death/Sorcery combo a try. And damn, surviving the beginning was harder than espected with this Shrewd Athena parentage Demigod Mage Death/Sorcery setup especially when I realized I couldn't get an attack spell until clvl 2 AND couldn't melee well at all either. About 5 or so Mages with this setup died before this one (Varda). Varda lucked out because I started with enough gold to get a Wand of Magic Missiles. With this Wand of Magic Missiles, I was able to get started with less trouble. Once I hit clvl 2, I learned Malediction, and it became my main offensive spell for a good while. I basically used Outpost's wilderness fringes to level up. If monsters were causing trouble, I used Scrolls of Teleportation to get out of the way. At one point, l almost got killed upon reaching Angwil. What really helped on my end was an Iron Crown of the Magi [0,+5] (+2) that gave a nice INT bonus. I actually did not get Death Spellbook #2 until around ~18(?) because none of the stores carried them initially. Once I got Spellbook #2, I started relying more on Orb of Entropy and Nether bolts. Cloudkill was good, but I always preferred to keep monsters away while playing spellcasters.

I chose Fell Sorcery as the clvl 20 special ability...Not sure how much this is helping me.

With this setup (especially Death/Sorcery), the Labyrinth is actually a terrible choice for dungeon exploration, now that I realize this. I'll probably head to the Orc cave and Castle are better choices in this case.

As debo, MarvinPA, etc can report, I said semi-seriously that getting to level 2 seems harder than getting from 2 to 20. And Labyrinth really is scary too...I have yet to poke my head in there with this build.

Cloudkill was stronger for me because I combined it with Infernal Deal, but I was never sure how good a choice of demigod power that was given that it comes a mere 5 levels before Eat Magic.

Sorcery realm is OP. Death could be replaed with any damage source at least as far as books 1 and 2 go.

Really interested to see how this progresses. I especially want to hear about how you levelled so far and where you're heading to level soon, since my good versions of this build died when I ran out of easy dungeons. I didn't know where to grind for water trolls...swamp? I was afraid to look there and die to hydras.

Malediction sometimes stuns and/or confuses but I don't know why/when and the spell description is no help there.

Would love to watch some of it if you cast at some point.

Mages can switch their second spell realm. So if you are really stuck starting, begin with Death and Chaos and level up a bit with Magic Missile before switching out to Sorcery. To switch realms, simply 'G'ain a spell from a book in the desired realm. You only have a fixed number of spells to learn, so don't do this too much though.

I fought mostly near swamp areas having Hounds + Water trolls to level up. Sometimes, I would attempt to take down Hydras too. I always carried !CCW AND Teleportation scrolls at all times, if possible. If I got poisoned, I used a !CCW without hesitation.

To be specific, I'm referring to the swamps north of Outpost, south of Morivant, and north of Angwil.

Regarding Hydras, I think I'm strong enough to take down hydras up to the 5-Headed one. I absolutely avoid those stronger than that.

So far, I barely poked into the Angband and Castle dungeons. I overlooked that Wargs Quest and should do it asap. I'll probably head to the Orc cave and Castle soon.

Getting somewhere here. Made it to clvl 25 before the 2 hour mark. I spent most of the duration between clvl 20 and 25 in the Castle. I found the Grimoire of Power, which was great. Orb of Entropy was great towards towards humanoids but useless against undead. For Undead, I had to use Malediction. For Golems, Nether bolts were effective. What helped me to advance a bit faster was me finding the Stone of Lore at clvl 22 from Meng You in Castle 22. No more ID woes. In retrospect, the Forest was actually more suitable for leveling, given its Hounds!!

Key finds:
