Unlucky twice over, with the boots and the drudge. On the boots, it happens... I've enchanted those same boots up, but without breaking the curse until the 7th ?*Enchant Armour*. The chance to break the curse is bifurcated from the stats increase, so unlucky rolls explain the trouble.
