Another test run. Right now it seems to me the easiest way to do the early game would be to take nothing but evasion.

Is elbereth really effective at all on this char? Seems an odd ability to spend xp on.

Probably not. Particularly with +danger, -3 good smithing items on an already vulnerable character. It's not a serious character. More a does evasion matter more than anything else test. That's the easiest run for artifice at 100' I've had.
That said Elbereth is always useful. Even that low in song that'll work for anything early other than archers, wraiths, easterlings and immune things like spiders.
Elbereth because it's the only thing at 12pts jeweller that could improve early survival. Danger/grace because I don't want it competing with a grace amulet on a singer. I can't be bothered swapping in and out.
Of course as I could of started with Elbereth it only makes sense if I want other songs later (say Aule, Trees, Staying) perhaps. By 5 song for Trees Elbereth will definitely work. Not for Balrogs of course but Giants, Troll guards. By 7 for Staying it'd do cats, greater werewolves (if I'm uninjured), shadows, weaker Rauko...

Hmm. danger = orc archers at 100', so I'd have to say a more sensible +1 song on an elbereth amulet. Heck Gorgol's probably shallow enough for 100' danger. I have doubts about 1st forge artifice really working....

It's kinda hard to cram enough useful things on an artifact at that point to outpace the little you could otherwise do with just Jeweller and that much smithing (or, well, 1 more grace, for +2 ev acc rings).

Yep. Or +1 rings and about 5 more evasion/melee :)
Realistic my attraction to 1st forge accuracy is: good I've got artifice, now I don't have to worry about saving pts and trying to guess when the next forge will show. ..
