So my expectations were very low, even after finding an early Potion of Experience; but dying that way still felt stupid and unnecessary. (Doesn't it always?) I spent a lot of time at 1150' and 1200', not daring to go down to 1250'... and when I finally did, at 2:40am, I immediately got killed.

Before you ask: yes, I'm absolutely going to call my next character Rodent ;-)
