One particularly memorable experience from this go-around: I picked up the chaos patron mutation around level 35ish or earlier, and it seemed benign enough from level to level. Then I found the usual ultra-desirable Thranduil, and I thought I'd gotten my helmet for the next 10 hours. That is, until my chaos patron decided against this. See that "a Hard Leather Cap (Blasted) [0,-10]"? That was Thranduil before my chaos patron said I'd been relying too much on my equipment. I decided then that I'd be diving deep in search of suicide or glory. Because without Thranduil, is life really worth living?

Of course, this premature loss of telepathy also meant I'd be taking up the habit of stave telepathy for the next few levels, and had I done research beforehand I would've realized that Thranduil wouldn't be an option anyway as soon as I found the (absurdly overpowered no-brainer racial helmet) Crown of Dragonkind. I imagine getting that makes the game turn around for most dragons, and it definitely did for me. Things just got a lot easier when I could freely enter Dragon's Lair with nether resistance and proceed to claw the place up.

The power growth of this dragon was a little more exponential than my experiences with regular-slot humans. Unimpressive early game, struggles to find decent equipment - the slot setup really is cruel when it comes to filling resistance holes, and for my first number of dragon attempts I fell into the trap of loading up on rings of combat, thinking something like losing 80 damage wasn't a good exchange for filling up 2.5 resistance holes. But in fact, I had plenty of damage at every point in the game without my realizing it, and I overcame the mental hurdle of seeing damage go down in favor of resistances. Case in point, the Ring of the Dwarves which I wore for about 80% of the game. Sound AND disenchantment resist? Sign me up.

Armor realm feels stronger than any other realm I've tried. I topped out at something like 290 AC at one point with stoneskin, plus it has a zillion never-situational, always-useful defensive spells and reflection and a bunch of misc stuff. That plus going red was a strong choice. One day I'd like to raise a crusade or death dragon to maturity, but that day is not yet here.

Close calls included taking on Zeus prematurely and getting other Olympians summoned on me to take off about 800 HP in a turn. I was running with about 1150 HP by the end, though, so I could play fairly freely. ALSO repeatedly getting roadblocked by the Unicorn of Order - I just could not take him down no matter what I did, and every encounter I had ended up with him summoning clones of dead uniques. J fight was uneventful, just the usual summoning and fleeing. And someone said I should try out that cloak of retribution, but it really didn't do much that I noticed. Would've rearranged my setup a little, but overall, very pleased with how this turned out.
