It's been a few years since I've played V (or any other *band actually) - see my last dumps on here, c. 3.0.6 - but the tweaks since those days have made the game much more *fun*, I would say. Certainly, I doubt many people are complaining about fewer eye/mould pits, right? Hah.

So this is my 6th? ish half-troll warrior, and easily the best outta the bunch. These are amusingly simple to play: get high blows, generous use of buffs (!Hero and !Berserk), and loads of -Trap/-Door/-Treasure, replaced by -Detect here. I cleared out a GCV the level previously and was probably a *little* too cocky for it. Although you should always be careful against uniques 30 levels OoD, also... this kinda character does get, well, boring, maybe? Dig an ASC if needed, but mostly buff and wail on whatever until it dies (or tele away if it might kill ya). The major issue is damage output; is 340/turn good? I mean, obviously with 35 speed I've got a mental image of some hyper-speed troll slicing things into small pieces, heheh. But coming up against deeper uniques, even with res, I'm not coping very well with their high HP, and their breaths/spells are *dangerous*. (The eye druj I ran into in the GCV was... no fun)

The major adjustment to my playstyle is I dive *much* quicker than I used to (I'm not sure I've *ever* reached 3000' before...). And it certainly works, although it's also cos this race/class combo is built like a tank. I'd be interested in giving a caster class a go, but this is just so... easy and fun, ha.

I guess my major questions from this death are (1) when do the good late-game weapons appear? (2) is it even worth bothering with ranged for this character - although it was useful to snipe Time Hounds (3) even with >1000HP I was worried about getting a nasty breath attack... what's a "good" level? (4) scumming for !Heal/!*Heal* is about the most boring thing ever, right...?
