This is my first warrior every in any angband. I been playing off and on for years now but havnt beaten it. I always would dive to fast or just not care, or cheat with the in game cheats. So far this warrior is doing pretty good. I have been unlucky with drops but then again I get the right stuff at the right time. Untill 1600ft or so all the artifacts I got were junk, I got all 3 of the 1d4 daggers, few axes. Didnt start getting equ artifacts untillstat gains. I hung around 1500and 1600ftt for awhile, got bored and decidedto dive to 2000, on the way I got tons of stat potions. My first good vault was at 1600ft where I encountered a bile demon. This first time I was really close to dying. I had poison resist but it still hit me for 300damage from a gas attack. I did kill it but not before phase dooring a couple of times to heal up. Next big challenge was at 2000ft where I found a Greater vault. One of the harder ones to deal with which it had one entrance on the left side and then it was wide open to all monsters. Killed a couple uniques, tuffest monster was the great swamp wyrm. Few others were a good 1200ft out of depth. Best part of this char so far is his steath. I took out most of the vault before 75% of the monsters woke up.

You have some very good stuff here (i've never found trickery in V before). If you find a Set of Foobars of Free Action, you should swap out Paurhach IMHO since the loss of AC is more than made up for by that extra ring slot. Later you'll get Cammithrim, Cambeleg or Fingolfin, and it will become moot since those are the best gauntlets period for a warrior and have FA (i think).

On 31.3.2004 15:46 ugmul@comcast.net wrote:
Ill keep my eyes open for some gauntlets of FA. Paurhach was my first artifact I found, kind of crapy though. Last night I took a dive down to 2300ft or so, ran in to 2 animal pits. Filled with dragons, hounds, and random nastys. Cleared them all out except for the quilithings that were just an annoyance. Levels went fast too, now level 40. Havnt ran away from a fight yet besides jelly pits, and all uniquies are dead, thought I only saw 2 in the last 300feet. Cant wait to i get to the angels, there always challenging.

Not much to update, took a dive down to 2300ft, there I had a giant battle with 10 uniques on one level. They were Gorlim, Waldern, Ariel, Adunqphel, Akhorahil, Smaug, Eol Ji Indur, Medusa, Itangast the Fire drake. I didnt get a single artifact on that trip, I was so disapointed. Few more trips I took out few more uniques, at 61uniques know and dead now. Got nice shield of Thorin though bumping my hps to 900 from 650!

Few more trips down on a dive to 2300, I saw on my detect a large group of lesser balrogs. I knew right away Moria was close. Took me 2 hours to clear all the balrogs. I got abou 6 artifacts from the lesser, 3levels, and another dead unique. Now at 59/59 for uniques. BoM didnt drop anything good though.

My first angband win. And my first true melee char. The RNG was very mean to this char, never gave me a checkerboard greater vault. I think I had 3 good sized greater vaults, but non of them had any artifacts. I farmed over 60 hellwurms and about 20 bile wurms. Got my rings and amulets from them, but other then that, nothing big. I didnt farm much, as soon as I got max stats I droped fast. I didnt get full resists to about dlvl 80 though when I get the palantir of westerness which let me use Numenor. Most of the game though I had all resists but Shards, that did hurt, went though potions fast too. I didnt wield calris untill I got dlvl 91 too, when I got it. Kind of sad, beat down morgy with Calris. My ring of speed I got from a wurm some where deep. To go on why I say RNG was mean also. I got every artifact dagger in the game, and every pair of gauntlets. But I used Anduril from 2600ft untill 4700 or so. pissed me off but needed the resists. Also I think I got less then 5 droped artifacts from uniquies. Saurmon didnt even drop an artifact. And the evil lord himself only gave up Caspanion.

THis first time I encountered morgy, took few trys to get good postioning to fight him. few teleport and recall. Finaly came down and found a dungen with 3 vaults, 2 of witch had perma walls, the butterfly type. I really liked this. Worked my way there, teleporting morgy away every time he got close, finaly got him in the vault. I think ported him away and killed the stuff inside. Then waited for him to return. As he did, I just parked myself in the hallway and beat him down melee style. I used a few runes of protection but only had 8 on me. They were worthless. I went though 1 healing potions 4 *heal*, and the 2 artifact heals. Was fun. I didnt like that mobs could drain my rods though, For saurmon and few others I droped my rods in another room and went back with like 1 of each and beat them down. Worked great. Time to get a mage or priest going. Always like those better.
