Setup just after finding the Sling of Buckland... with the better source of RConf, ill rethink the kit before diving again.
Ironic, i had a terrible bad luck finding INT potions... every stat was maxed xept base INT around 18/3x...
Mana Bolt is supreme. Dark Spear is useless. The real average of Mana Bolt per TIME against a row of monsters other than the first that takes all shots is still 2 times MORE than Dark spear. And deals more damage than Strike to Life too heh.
I made a comparation table for all Necro and Mage spells with Heighten Magic... and am doing Fast Casting average/time.
The mage spells seem realy wimpy when compared to the necros. Hum... too much spellcasting... gonna replay a sword shield warrior :)

Dark ball is good too.

A mage has better defensive spells and uses wands of striking/storms to compensate.
Also, his capability to recharge items is excellent.

Just sold Isildur, will never use it without Armor Proeficience, but IMHO Fast Casting > A. P.... Its like ~20% more speed for casting only, without diminishing returns (with increasing returns, in fact), for my fave spell (mana bolt).
Dunno why i am carrying those wands of striking... when i have a lot, ill see if ill keep them.

You could use the wands in the lower levels for the killer blow.
They are irresistible.

I don't understand Fast Casting. It allows you to cast an extra spell every 4 or 5 turns at normal speed or something like that?

On 21.9.2004 07:12 Atriel wrote:
IMHO, Fast Casting is better than this because it is not random like Fast Attack :)
Normally, a spell uses 100 energy to be cast.
F.C. lowers energy needed to cast spells by the formula:
5 + (CLvl - SLvl) / 2
So a clvl 50 necro casting Mana Bolt would use:
100 - (5 + (50 - 24) / 2 ) = 82 energy.
This makes FC effective with any speed... so if i had 20 speed, it would be like i had ~25 speed for casting only. Using less energy = more chance to react danger.
It makes lesser spells more useful, and Mana Bolt is a incredibly powerful spell at lvl 24, it deals almost the damage of a Mana Storm.
FC isnt good imho if you plan to use heavy high spells, and is good with low/mid lvl spells.
Hmm... ill ditch the wands...
Must be careful with the resistence holes. Shelob can roast me in 1 turn...

After this, I'm thinking about playing a Priest, maybe a Half-Troll or Ent.
I will try with Meditation, HMagic and FCasting (OoD is slvl 15).

The problem with wands for a non-mage character is the recharge. You could destroy a whole stack of wands if the spell fails. Maybe you could split a large stack and recharge each part separately.

i think that OoD is a bit underpowered in O (just like Rangers)... i have an entire graveyard of dead priests :) but this combo would make a priest better...
Good luck! id like to see a dwarf priest winner in O.

Thanks for the tip.

Maybe a Priest in O has to do more hand-to-hand combat and use less OoD. I'm thinking in a classic Half-Troll Priest with 18/20 STR and 18 WIS, high HP and decent fighting skill.

I keep that st#pid +1 boots of speed as an irony to my last 2 chars, that i found awesome boots of speed.
Still, i find this char as powerfull as the others.... wonder how it will be when i get more speed than Buckland.
