I think she figured out ringil was good, doing much better than Vardis....

In every town visit, check black market for rings of constitution / strengt. You should wear it, or any other suitable ring. If y0ou find, you can wear handgear of agility, they don't effect spellcasting. Don't melee disenchanting creatures, teleport them away, or kill in distance. Why you are carrying that scroll of enchant to hit around? Sell that defender sword, you won't wear it.

Thanks for the comments!! I have gloves of free action since the last update, just took me an age to find them. The scroll was an oversight - I forgot I had it! :) Had a lovely level yesterday - level 30 with a vault including the local monster uniion meeting of six uniques (including Saruman, Gabriel Glaurang Father of Dragons and a Ringwraith), three more ancient dragons, a lich, a lesser balrog and some other lovelies that I can't even spell. Was going to add it to the screendumps for posterity, but alas I don't have it in an html file! :) Now I just have to figure out who the disenchanting creatures _are_... It's.. interesting... playing this game blind, as a newbie! :-)

Just a li'l mini-update...

On 24.1.2005 15:46 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
Easiest way to look disenchanters is to look oooks monster spoilers, search Angband 3.0.5 in monster discriptions for 'disenchant', you should get list of some 25 monsters. (If you wan't to use spoilers.) If not, use proping.

You might consider swapping that other elvenkind armour, since resist dark is important to spellcaster. Also, try to get resist blindness and resist confusion. If shopkeeper is has enough money, sell those two bladed weapons from your home, you won't use them, you have no need. I doubt that you won't swap ringil, and if you swap, you have much better weapon that plain defender or BoC

Still can't bring myself to sell off backup weapons - what if something happens to my sweet li'l Ringil! Anything's better than nothing....

you can lose artifact only two ways: dop it on floor, and leave level, or read scroll of curse weapon. (or was it *curse weapon*, I don't remember). Disenchants just takes away to_hit and to_dam bonuses.

Scum Black Market, or at least visit it every time you recall from dungeon, and swap that =oProtection to =oConstitution as soon as possible. You have quite low CON and hp.

Sell at least those restore potions from home, also =oFA (you have FA in Ringil). And if you still run out of base in home, sell those spare copies of town spellbooks.

On 1.2.2005 23:24 dgwynne@ntlworld.com wrote:
Finally found a ring of Con - this is still in the dungeon, hence the odd inventory! Stat gain not going bad, still need more resistance items, but that's all down to the luck of finding them. Or, err, not.

Lesson for the day - do not let your character faint from hunger while fighting Gravity Hounds. Three hitpoints remaining is just *too* close for comfort....

On 5.2.2005 00:35 dgwynne@ntlworld.com wrote:
Met my first Ancient Dragon (Blue). Very nearly through statgain - just need a last con potion. There has to be one *somewhere*!

*Identify* that elvenkind shield, you need RConf and RBlind before going much deeper, since confusion is killer in deeper.

On 5.2.2005 12:05 dgwynne@ntlworld.com wrote:
Well pointed out! I thought I had already. Check box ticked for RConf! Shame a death mold managed to disenchant it a little, but never mind.

Have I said thank you for all the advice yet? *Thank you* I think you're definitely intrumental in helping keep Rowan alive so far!

On 6.2.2005 13:47 dgwynne@ntlworld.com wrote:
Still going... Really need hold life and nether resist, I think...

On 6.2.2005 13:59 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
I'd wear Caspanion, thus getting more hp, your CON is dangerously low. You lose RDark on that, but gain valuable hp. And also you'll get RPoison and RConf, thus allowing swap other equipment. If you find headgear providing ESP, swap amulet. You also may test how thing go, if yo swap tahta =oINT to RoS.

On 7.2.2005 22:44 dgwynne@ntlworld.com wrote:
Kavlax the Many Headed is _tough_! But I now have almost all the spellbooks. Still debating the armour swap - changing means that I have a 1% failure on a lot of spells, and I rather like being able to rely on them... Swapped my armour for leather with Resist Blindness in the interim.

On 8.2.2005 09:25 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
few comments: sell those statpotions, you donät need to store them at home. (you'll get some 8k gold / one potion). Sell that elvenkind shield with RNexus. Also, if you run out of space in your home, sell ?*RemoveCurse*, since only item they can be used is Calris, and no one will ever wear Calris if other possibility is Ringil. In what you need !oCCW? Have you been using them lately? Hopefully you soon find good helm and better amulet.

sell all junk: !oCCW's (have you been using them lately?), statpotions, RAcid armour, mattock, GoldDSM, Arvendui, all elvenkind armours and shields, defender, Osondir. You still need few more CON, =oCON(+6) would do trick. Or Thorin. :)

If you can handle monsters on your current level, dive a bit, and see if you can manage in bit deeper.
