    lightning or fire.  
    You found it lying on the floor of a special level.

Had a few unpleasant surprises with this character. I always detect traps in any area before exploring it, but a few levels into Angband I got involved in a battle where Fundin Bluecloak summoned a bunch of friendly druj. I swapped places with one, and ended up stepping onto a trap I hadn't seen because it was in the way. Of course it had to be a trap of artifact destruction and my trusty Aranruth got turned into a heap of scrap metal. Then a few levels further down on a fumblefingers quest level full of hand druj, I got surrounded by cantoras, yet more druj and an army of greater undead. Low on health and sanity I decided to read one of my scrolls of teleport level, only to be told that some mysterious force prevented me from teleporting. I mean... I had those scrolls sitting in my inventory taking up a valuable slot for most of the game just for such an occasion, and when I finally need to use the damn things they don't work! It wasn't a special level, I wasn't carrying any anti-teleport equipment and normal teleportation inside that level worked fine so I'm baffled as to what happened :-/

I had actually enchanted Belangil higher but the army of undead I mentioned earlier consisted mainly of a load of nightcrawlers with a ringwraith concealed among them that I'd missed, assuming it was another nightcrawler. You can guess the rest ; with 13 hits/round that's a lot of disenchants before I get a chance to stop it :-)
