My most successful char ever... had some good luck, too. Early boots
of speed in Mirkwood!

Normally after Mirkwood I dive through SLoM for xp and Trone's coat,
but this time I got a few great items early in SLoM including a ring
of speed and Flare which covered fire immunity, and, seriously lacking
in tomes, I noticed that Demilichs drop tomes and thought I'd try
paths of the dead, not really a dungeon I've bothered with before. I
don't know if I'd bother again. Demiliches and archlichs aren't that
common, and most of the other monsters there were really
boring. However, I did find a seriously nice randart mage staff
there. I did level up quite a bit, max my stats and complete my set of
tomes, though. I also died once, and discovered that undead form
(first time it has happened to me) is pretty scary in paths of the
dead: it tends to have a small number of powerful monsters, when you
want a large number of weak ones. Also the nice technique of using
absorb soul only works if you can find some opponents with souls! A
few potions of CCW later I found a group of novice mages and my return
to life was assured :-) Feagwath dropped nothing of interest.

With fire immunity and maxxed stats I went to try the Maeglin quest,
which killed my last character to get this far. Had no trouble with it
this time. Absorb soul and noxious cloud kept me full hps from the
troll mobs, and Maeglin died to manathrusts before he reached
me. After he was dead one of the balrogs caused a small problem by
summoning too much around me when I was low on mana, but I managed to
find somewhere to regen.

Managing around +37 base speed (including +7 from Manwe) and something
like +64 when hasted I dived through mordor, I found nothing remotely
challenging on the first 30 levels of it. At level 62 there was a
princess quest for 10 archliches which I nearly completed 4 times
(*cough*) to see if they wanted to drop me a really nice rod base or
mage staff, but they didn't manage a single rod base of the istari nor
a single decent staff. I made a lot of cash selling spare tomes :P A
bronze golem quest was a bit annoying when one of the buggers summoned
a greater balrog which proceeded to destroy my nice anti-summoning
corridors, but it was no big deal.

After the bottom of mordor I powerdived through Dol Guldur. (My first
time killing the necromancer!). Nothing remotely threatened me there,
the necromancer dropped nothing interesting. I only stopped to pick up
Healing potions and kill uniques.

I feel like there really isn't much left I need. I'd like an armour of
life, it would be good to be able to shuffle eq a bit to get 40 con, a
randart of cure insanity would be a timesaver... I'll probably spend
some time in Erebor now and then head over to the submerged ruins
(which I've never been to before either!).
