Look what nice char I've just rolled (took me 2 hours). He is still in the starting town. Note the nice HP. I got them by expoiting a bug that allows one to autoroll for stats and then by hand roll for highest starting HP. Otherwise it would take me days... :) (The but is that when you choose 'p'revious char in autoroll, HP is not restored. Instead of correcting the bug I would standarize the starting HP or just remove autorolling altoghether.)

Now I don't know if I should wait for the night (hounds alseep, but more monsters) or go ahead at once (more objects seen, paths to exits seen, less monsters). I also wonder if I should gain levels in the DL20 Forest north (all kinds of nasty hounds are DL20, but as a ranger I detect trees) or in DL 19 Plains south (less forest so monsters move faster). Note that I do not stair scumm and do not use Magic Mapping for detecting wilderness exists. So this is going to be a short game, anyway... ;>

And I gave up the Shield Mastery specialty. It will be Marksman and Mighty Throw next. I also do not insit on getting to Gondolin first. I may as well go to Amon Rudh dungeon (though I have no WOR) or to Menegroth (seems the easiest big town to reach).

BTW, after countless deaths, looking for alternatives to Druadan, I noticed that raceclass.txt is wrong about Green Elfs. Stats are wrong and the text comparing them to Gray Elfs is mixed up.

Hm, I never use the autoroller, so haven't noticed any issues. And I'll check the elves; grey should be tougher but less stealthy than green.

I decided to go north at night. First I managed to find an exit and run away from a Giant spider. Then I leveled to CL10 and decided to level some more before going to some serious city (probably south at daytime). This time, however, I could find no exit nearby, loooking for it I was attacked, I destroyed a troll zombie and fleeing from a werewolf got bitten to death by the fastest of the advancing Clear hounds. That's it.

I think that to make no-stair-scumming play style viable for advanced races (at least with some classes) no monsters should be generated in the wilderness (when entering the level, as well as after that) within their detection range from the player. Otherwise, if a group of hounds and a tiger are generated on both sides of the character starting position, the game ends. Moreover at least 3 wilderness exits should be guaranteed for each direction and the terrain should hint at them more reliably, especially at night. Nothing more frustrating than fighting your way through to the middle of the opposite wilderness edge, then choosing to flee the enraged monster hordes to the right along the edge, only to find out there is no exit on that half of the edge at all. Moreover, connected_stairs option should affect wilderness exists (as it is, I have one less exit to flee to) and Magic Mapping should not reveal exits, or alternatively even Door/Stair Detection should reveal them.

Bah, I should have used the Dagger of Slay Troll to kill the zombie. The perhaps I could kill the hounds before the werewolf approached. YASD.

BTW, could the NPP WIP-5 turncount and "turns spent not resting" count be added to FA? This way stair-scumming in the wilderness could be given some better goal than "hoard as much objects and kill as many wimpy monsters as you can without any risk as long as you do not die of boredom". Now it can be "level up high enough to venture into the dungeons in the smallest number of turns". Also, a service making it possible to wait for the night/for the day without spending gameturns would be nice (similar to the Inn in TOME). Though the "turns spent not resting" make this optional. To be available even in small towns this could be a part of the Temple: Guest Rooms for Pilgrims. :)

A complaint: I've just noticed there is no Deadeye Shot and other missile spells from O 1.1.0 in FA. What a pity (I especially miss the Vile Dart for throwing-specialist Assassins).
