Best 1.10 character, start was kinda tough... Max-damage necro... Now i think this char is stable thanks to ESP from angmar, respoison, awesome damage with the 3 specs... My spell level on first strike is 54 :D and it raises to 65+ after a few casts! Almost everything goes down fast... and if my foe isnt so dangerous ranged, the ritual is 3x magic bolt to empower before mana bolting away.
Just came up from a vault, I usually dont use book 3 early, with the crappy costly detection, but found this one down there and started using thanks to 3 int potions, so ill ditch the rods.
Need: Res Conf, Res Dark to be happy.
Didnt made 1.10 warrior past clvl 3x...

Nice. Teleport Away is always noce to have.

I would carry Thalkettoth as a swap for RConf.

Clvl 43, spell level empowered+channeling ~70.
I chose to ditch res blind in favor to 0% spell fail... my savings are good and res lite/dark covered.
Hm... i am just avoiding confusers for now, inventory slots are tight right now, no luck finding books, and i hope soon to find an amulet of magi :)
I hate swaps even more now cuz a while ago this happened with another char:
You were wearing the ring of Barahir
You are wearing a ring of Eregion {Conf}
Something (offscreen - Drolem?) breathes poison.
You die!
And im ok just avoiding confusers :)

7th or 8th char killed by Ungoliant... heh
My power level was really close to her... i could maintain HP high with drainlife and deal damage with manabolt... i got her to 3 stars like 5 times, in a clean level... but she regened all HP after i teleported to recover mana... 1 pot of mana could make me kill her (pots of mana with my specs = GODLY)
In O you need Res Fear against certain monsters... even being a mage.

Well, you're not the first one to die this way. What truly impresses me is that it breaks through dark resistance. In Sangband, you can get paralyzed by poison through poison damage, but usually it's only for one turn if you have res_poison. Of course, maybe the real issue is that one turn is too long, especially for chain breathing.

Does Oangband have attenuated breaths? Does damage decrase with distance? If so, maybe try attacking from farther away?

Also, I'm not sure, but in Oangband and Sangband, immediate damage from poison should be significantly less -- I doubt you can be instakillled by poison (esp. from offscreen with attenuated breaths) unless is causes paralysis.

Argh bad luck there. Same death happened to me. But if that was your 7th or 8th death against the spider, isn't it about time for you to not fight her without res fear?!?

Lol, yeah, i got cocky... but then i am not fully aware of the nature of Ungoliantīs attack in O...
It seems to be a mix of Dark and Poison that can paralyze if you do not have res fear...
I died to her in other variants, DrAngband, Hengband, NPP...
Hmm.. i dont know if O has atenuated breaths... well, ill try some more melee chars soon :)
