Seeing how far a dwarf can get with Jousting, Magic Resist, and forging. So far the forging hasn't really resulted in anything -- perhaps just a combination of being unlucky and using low-level components. On the other hand, with no second (blunt) attack skill, and no magic either, perhaps he's simply been lucky to survive so long!

Since they breathe, by far the most annoying breeders were shadow breeders.

Controlled chaos tiles a little bit by making sure they weren't created by chaos breath. If you're in an anti-summoning corridor next to a chaos breather, there doesn't seem to be anywhere for a chaos tile to spawn.

Perhaps breeding has been toned down since you tried? This was a good challenge. The forging spiced up the hack-and-slash a little bit, too. Without forging, this would have been agony, though someone (probably not me!) with a lot of patience, skill, and luck might just be able to do it for the insane score a successful 2-skill or 3-skill completion would give.

Actually, a 3-skill with sword, armor forging, spell resist might not have been _too_ much harder than this if you had some luck on the sword drops.

Perhaps I'm underestimating the value of the energy reduced from monsters on jousting critical hits, though.

One thing that was interesting on the forging front was that for pure damage, it looked like jousting was in last place. Blades of chaos and maces of disruption do much more base damage than a scythe of slicing. That said, I can't complain with the great weapon I forged from a piece of runegold. Multiple attempts with better components didn't create anything close to it.
