Comments and thoughts on Sangband:

I really like the crafting system, but the distribution of components is WAY too heavily favored towards end-gear. I had been steadily raising Armor Forging, Weapon Forging, and Magical Infusion since power level 5, and the first chunk of metal I got was Iron (at some appropriate Dlevel, I think late 20-ish?).

I was very much strapped for Resistances before then, and it was really annoying that I couldn't make anything that's simply RElec or RCold for lack of metal.

Towards the end of the game, the opposite problem emerged. I was to the point of not bothering to pick up any metal that wasn't Adamant, and even Adamant was common enough off Dragons that I could build up perfect weapons.

Immunities are too easy to craft IMO. Essences of the basic 4 elements are way overabundant in the end-game, and the only reason a Artificer wouldn't have full immunities is sheer laziness.

Sauron and Morgoth are significantly easier than I expected. No big Mana Storms, no big healing of self, not even very often or powerful summons (I got some Vrocks and Nalfanshees the first summon, and some vampires the second). The most damage Morgoth ever hit me for in a single round was about 200.

In constrast, Unmakers are much more tough, with their explosive breeding and breaths.. (I routinely abandon levels where I see more than one.)

Finally, I feel that OAngband's dice + deadliness system just doesn't work out very well. Anyone relying primarily on Melee wants a weapon with as big dice as possible, so artifact weapons are often not competitive with even, say, an Executioner Sword of Slay Evil.

You're running a pretty high-power character here given your long list of skills. It's not too surprising that you found Morgoth and Sauron easy.

Unmakers are abandon-worthy, IMO. Especially since they often breed well out of LOS and are unmanageable by the time you see them.

Alternatively, one could make them infrequently sold in the General store or such.

I take it from the lack of response that you generally approve of the Oangband style +Deadliness?
