Best stroke of luck so far was getting a ?Acquirement from a Mind Flayer in the wilderness, which gave me the Chain Mail of Command, my only artifact so far.

Thoughs on Life/Chaos so far: 1. Magic Missile is awesome. I have it specialized (+40% power); I'm considering mastering it but the -1% fail and the +50% bonus don't seem worth the slot, when I can instead improve one of my higher level spells with a more useful shape, like Beam of Energy.

Immolation was a spell I was really excited about during design, but I think it's not so great for a mage, because they just can't take being hit by things for very long. I figure it would be much better for a Chaos Warrior. Ditto for the Life buffs; Heroism, Prayer, Strength.. these would be better if I was ever in melee, but I mostly shoot 'n' scoot.

Lack of Identify is starting to get irritating. When I pick up the 3rd Chaos book I can at least recharge my staves of perception, but the 3rd Life book won't help. A rod of perception would be so nice right about now.

I've now specialized Holy Orb, which has become an excellent attack spell. I am definitely able to do most if not all of my damage from spells. Teleport and Blink are good too, and it's nice to have Fist of Force rather than having to have a digger.

Fire Ball does enough damage to be of use but my fail rate is still too high. It was better before I switched amulets from Brilliance +5 to a Luck amulet with Telepathy on it. I anticipate liking Glyph of Warding but haven't played much at the level to use it. And I'm surprisingly happy with Destroy Doors & Traps, which I never used to think very much of. But it's useful in vaults, when trap disarming gets very tiring.

Thieves' Guild quests aren't really worth the time: the first one has no reward and only unlocks an ID station at the guild. But I should probably do them, just so I don't miss any major artifacts.
