Actually a character who didn't die before I was done for the night. Nothing too special yet - though he's deeper on his diving than I have managed so far with other tries.

There's really no need to carry around those spell books that you are not currently using. Leave them at home. Not only will it lighten your load, but it will keep them safe. The infra-vision is nice. You may??? be able to bump up your stealth a little by not constantly wielding the torch, and not having to carry extra torches will lighten your load further.

I tend to pick up the 4th book at about this time - it is a little early though - since I often don't really cast frost ball until I have it more MP - which is usually closer to level 25.

I'm not sure what you mean by boosting my stealth by not carrying my torch - surely I don't want to wander around without a light source... and I try to remember to combine torches as soon as they get to the point I can do so without losing turns of light. Looking forward to an everburning torch or lamp though - just haven't found one yet.

It looks like I'm only burdened by less than a pount - so once I shoot off a few arrows - I should be back below as well. I will probably drop the 4th book in home first though - 4 more levels will take a little while longer than I am used to due to being a high elf anyway.

Throw away the tulwar and carry 10 lbs of arrows instead.

Check the AC/weight for non-ego armor, and whenever slowed even just by 1 point you should toss the least effective. Immediately. Repeat until unslowed or all armor is ego.

You could combine your 4 torches into 2 about 6K turns each without losing any turns of light.

Next game use the autoroller to start with both Str 13 and int 18/50, i.e. max for highelf mage, and besides that emphasize con over the rest.

I haven't bothered with the autoroller since point-buy has come out. I prefer point-buy. If it means "handicapping" myself - so be it. Its a time saver.

As for the torches - torches max out at 5k turns - so that's a no-go for now.

Honestly, I rarely have issues with speed - this is the first time that I've even noticed it after dumping stuff in the town. It will adjust accordingly.

Failed casting of PD and being slower than I thought I was... basically just wasn't paying enough attention.

Why didn't this update? Trying again.

Okay - apparently I'm a moron and didn't overwrite the existing dump I had. Oh well - made it to level 21 before I died. Nothing special.

Current V took the delay out of the autoroller. It's pretty fast. In any event, it's less time than clearing orc or troll pits for 2 strength potions. Torches go to 6K turns. There was even a thread about it.

You seem to have experience of old versions. If you are sure torches max at 5K, you are likely mistaken about other things as well. You might want to give advice the benefit of the doubt until you test it.
