Made a priest, seeing as how they can practically survive anything, and how much fun LCC has been having with his... Inspiration ho!

This is the third incarnation of Hurgan, the first got a holy avenger and the phial early but died to a lack of ?phase, the same with #2 however he didn't have anything cool. Both were around level 10.

This one is going well, good shooter and got a nice +5 wis from the market :)

Edit, started with 17 base in str/wis/con. Wis went up with a potion of contemplation, which nuked charisma, woot!

Since you asked :
1) Protection from evil 3e and prayer 4a are my favorite spells.
2) Detect evil until you get telepathy. Kill orcs before trolls, before ogres. They give treasure and if in a room can be hurt by call light.
3) Healing spells are very powerful, costing about 5 heal/ mana point. If you use 1) above then you do not have to heal anywhere near as often.
4) Portal away from any fight which you are losing. Portal away if you are outclassed by a monster which would attack you soon.
5) Carry two or more copies of your books and recall scrolls, and stock spares at home. They get burned up far too often.
6) Use the spoiler file for monsters - mon-info to check whether the monster is evil and of level less than you until you are familiar with all monsters. If a monster is evil and of level less than you by a few levels, then prayer 3e will often protect you. Do not take on any monster which can kill you faster than you can kill it. Rule of thumb - (your hp/2 + 3 casts of your best healing spell, divided by his average hit) is turns he can kill you. (His maximum HP divided by your average hit) is turns it takes for you to kill him.
7) Carry potions which cure blindness and confusion, CCW if you can afford them. Portal away if a monster confuses you and you are forced to quaff a potion. It is just not worth the hassle to fight confusers.
8) Stop diving if you are forced to flee more than three times on a level. Consider going back upstairs a bit.
9) "It breathes x" and hp cut by 5 percent or more is signal to portal.
10) You are probably already aware that your character is weak, hitting only 10 and shooting 34. He lacks Rbase, free action, confusion, and most of all telepathy. Stay on level 15 until you have accumulated equipment. You might get lucky and find the spear of Orome. Then go down to level 20 for cap of Thranduil. When you get that, then go to level 30 for gain stat.
11) Your AC is pitiful! Go to the armor shop and buy better armor. AC should be at least 3x your character level. For example, at my clvl 20, I had AC 61. At level 26 my AC is 94. Armor reduces damage inflicted upon you when monsters hit.
12) Scrolls identify are essential! I carry 12 down and recall when I run low or finish searching a level. Buy out all until you have a stack of 99 at home. They are often not stocked. If your speed is unencumbered, defer id on armor and weapons until pseudo id tells you it is excellent. THEN id or drop if just magical and you have cash already. Always id unidentified objects otherwise, you may find an essential item for your equipment/ inventory.
13) You are carrying too many unenchanted arrows. Visit home more often and carry about 35 arrows at a time. You are not a mage - bash on monsters while they are easy because it helps you practice. But defer this point until you have armor - see 11).
14) You are on track for a game lasting 500k turns. Consider slowing down! If it takes 3 million turns to be sure of winning, isn't that better than always dying with a fast diving character? Fast diving is a challenge for those who have already won several times and want to break new ground. It is NOT for novices like me and you...

Well, you asked! I gave it my best shot...

I'm hoping to find something useful in terms of armor and a weapon. I can melee ogre's pretty well now if I feel like it, as long as I detect to make sure nothing is sneaking up on me and I heal up from time to time. 3% fail on most spells except the higher end ones.

My orb makes most uniques fall and die in a few turns, and it clears orcs and ogres out like they are nothing still... although that won't last much longer as I go deeper, but hey, it's nice while it lasts right?

(I'm at work right now, my most current dump at clevel 22 is at home still, but im up around 55 ac now and I'm loving mcd.)

Currently hoping for: rBase, FA, SI

Updated a little more, picked up dwarven chain mail from the shop, now I have FA, and some extra con/str. New weapon, and a ring of escaping which I'm using for now, orb is still 3% with it on, and if I ever need to cast "d" spells, I can just take it off.

Hoping to find rBase before I drop some more.

Inscribe your books so you can p3b rather than pcb. Eventually it will matter. Among other things, it stops you from casting the wrong spell when e.g. 'c' sticks and pcb turns into pcc or when spellbooks get burnt so 'c' becomes 'b' etc. Teach your fingers now.

Yeah, I had forgotten to do this, but it has happened, especially when I drop Beginner's handbooks to loot other things (Only do this since I have sense surroundings, a rod of trap location, and of course am already recalling out)

2x rings of speed, updated books as suggested.

Priest is ridiculously easy... orb is still very very strong.
Heavy xbow of extra shots is also helping quite a bit along with my permanent +9 speed (it would be +11 but I have too much weight from gear, need more strength!)

Still lacking rbase, but I have acid/cold and SI/FA

Going to go a little deeper, until I get a few more bases covered before I really drop down.

I'd keep Haradekket if it was worth wielding to me right now, but the rings of speed work better for me. Plus the cash I sold it for bought my xbow at the time, so it was worth it IMO.

Irony: Another heavy xbow of ES dropped as soon as I bought the one I have... but hey it doesn't matter, I like my HA better anyway.

Well doing quite well still. Have some good resists from armor I recently picked up, found a ring of rPoison to swap if I feel I need it. Finally the shop had ?recharge so I have my -telother back... I wish I could find more of those damn things!

Found !aug in a room with a seraph, I phased away from it when it summoned an archangel and got the pot before it could do anything else.

Found a vault recently too, full of Hezrou which would have been some nice XP, but oh well, killed what I could but there was a grand master mystic trapped behind them so once he was about to get free I bailed. No good loots from it, although in the same level earlier I found the star of elendil and cambeleg.

Currently hoping for more str/wis and a good weapon... hopefully multiple blows! Ringil would rock, but so would winning the lottery....

Orb is still very strong, crossbow and rods can finish what it starts too. Ren wasn't much of a challenge, he got me to about 100 hp a few times, but I was able to ?phase and cast heal enough. Also having 18 speed helped! (Love the pots!)

WTB no fail escapes like scrolls, I had a close call with a drolem but escaped by m2b.. wow I am so lucky it fired a missile instead of breathing poison! A lesson I shall keep to heart... always look at the monster list more closely! (Yes I have it up in a term window but sometimes I get too excited and stop looking)

Go down two more levels. Drolems are native at 2400', but PB6 is native to 2500'. It makes a BIG difference.

Hah, Ethereal Dragon Breathes Darkness, you die.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted! I didn't know darkness hit that hard, oh well, I learn something new every time I die :)
