CL8 DL9 24664. Chased off by a baby blue dragon, some novice fighters, and an orc shaman. I would have survived had I stuck it out. Notable finds so far are the mace (+1,+5) and the short bow (+3,+5). Better than my first attempt already.

CL19 DL19 63981. Low on supplies and surrounded by orcs, I had a good run so decided to recall and restock. I got the 4 basic resists covered. Have a decent weapon and bow. Just obtained the 3rd spellbook and learned all the wrong spells. Doh! The drain life and acid bolts are nice to have, but fairly useless, because activation is such a bitch. SI and RConf would be nice finds. An umber hulk almost gazed me to death.

CL25 DL29 126937. I recalled to town specifically to ID a bunch of stuff that I wasn't able to ID by use, so of course, there was no ID at all available in town. There was however 25,000 GP worth of armour that I just had to have, and I only had about 4K in my pocket. I sold a lot of stuff that I wouldn't have normally parted with, including a couple of un-ID'd {egos} and my Holy Avenger (no more SI). This one blow a round is getting old, and nearly getting me killed. I'm fighting things that personal experience tells me aren't that big of a threat, and getting my butt kicked because all the early healing spells suck. I still use CLW all the time even though CSW and CMW have the same 5% failure rate. I just got the 4th book with Heal, but it's a 35% fail. My descent rate has just fallen off the table thanks to that damn rod of detect treasure.

That damn rod of detect treasure is a priest's best friend. It points out when you should risk your life for an unaware potion of salt water. :)

Exactly!

CL27 DL35 158194. Superb feeling. Quaffed enlightenment. Recalled after clearing a vault so I could ID some stuff. Also because I was almost killed by Inertia Hounds while walking around at speed -4 because I was carrying so much crap. That chest I lugged back to town really paid off, an {average} lance and some GP. Luckily my last ditch portal landed me right next to the two stat potions that I was sticking around trying to get to. Only 1 ID available in town today, so I spent a bunch of time trying to test by use vs. the hapless townfolk. The good vault finds were the bow of accuracy, GDSM, the un-ID'd {excellent} boots and the un-ID'd {special} cloak (activates for recharge). The cloak inadvertently saved my life too, as I forgot the my FA was previously provided by the dwarven armour that I swapped out. This was brought to my attention when I was set upon by a sneaky little trapper. They just get a ridiculous number of attacks plus paralysis.

Almost forgot, that war hammer, though not vault related is really coming in handy. 2 attacks IS better than 1.

CL29 DL40 185016. Being unable to reach a down staircase, I recalled after being chased around for a while by a death quasit and an emperor wright. My wand of TO exploded upon recharge. Of course, my next portal landed my a few steps from the stairs. The big find on this trip has to be the ring of speed +8, found in an orc pit, DL30's. I also found the morning star bloodspike. It has resist nexus, SI and STR+4, all needed, but only 1 blow (swap for now). It was dropped by the queen ant. This is the first time I ever bothered to kill her (and I almost passed on it) . Sold orcrist and the dwarven armour (that I just bought) and spent all of my meager cash supply on 2 stat potions in the BM.

To the maintainers: I wouldn't mind seeing a little AI tweak when it comes to summoning. The Queen Ant spent a LOT of turns summoning things that couldn't reach me. I was surrounded on granite on 7 sides and she occupied the 8th position.

CL29 DL48 199840. Recalled because I was down to 1 scroll of recall and got tired of avoiding fights that could destroy it. Changed weapons again. Back to 1 blow with the (found) lance of eorlingas, no swap. Base speed now +10. Lack of melee damage and spell points is starting to be a drag. I need more WIS. Most useful recent find was the rod of detection. With my current kit, would I be better off with a ring of flame [+14] than my ring of damage (+10)? The RoFlame is in the BM, I could buy it.

You've already got slay evil, so ring of flames would not be worth much.

CL30 DL54 208762. Toothy rides again! Thanks to Sirridan for the save recovery. Recalled once again after running low on recall scrolls. This dive was utterly uneventful, save for a close call with the reaper. Down to 26 HP remaining after 2 poison breaths form an unseen (detected) 7-headed hydra, I think. I learned that terror and fear are two different things. Remove fear and/or resistance to fear doesn't help with terror.

CL31 DL56 214812. Recalled after running out of ID. Found the useful short bow of armas (+1 WIS, +1 SPEED), a ring of slaying (+6, +7) and a potion of WIS. Still looking for a better weapon.

CL31 DL63 228935. Recalled after Dwar almost killed be with a nether ball. I probably shouldn't have fought him in the first place, but I was tired of running all the time. Picked up metal cap of thengel for resist confusion. Found 2 sets of artifact gloves, but decided to keep my agility +2. The amulet of carlammas replaces searching +5. Dumped the shield of resist lightening to lighten my load and regain my balance. Found a lance of extra attacks (3 per round/33 per), best damage yet, but stashed at home until I find another means of SI or RConf.

CL31 DL69 240138. Recalled so I could take a break and sort out my kit. Wasted some time tangling with a Vampire ?something? who drained a bunch of XP. Took forever to earn it back. I'm finally to a point where I can get 2 blows with bloodspike. Swapped the GDSM back to the Dwarven. Found spell books 5, 6 and 7. Dropped the first 2. Have boots of stability, resist nexus. Resist nether would be nice. Found my first potion of augmentation ever, sweet! Probably my best game ever, and still alive!

You might want to reconsider carrying book 2 for resist heat&cold. Double resistance makes a big difference if you fight any heavy breathers. You should cast it before any serious fight in case uninvited guests appear. Alternatively, you are diving fast enough to consider buying out the alchemist a couple of times each return to town, and quaffing all resistance potions when you recall hoping they will last for most of the trip.

RIP Toothy. Shelob, spider of darkness. I had her down to about 50% when she decided to breathe darkness and kill me. Funny thing is, I wasn't at all afraid of her until I died. I just stared at the screen in disbelief as I read the final message. All her minions were poisonous, so I just figured that I'd be OK with resist poison. I guess I should have paid more attention to her name. I only went after her for the 50,000 XP in a ill-fated attempt to catch PowerDiver on the ladder (and she didn't seem all that dangerous).
