This fellow took a lot of time to get going. I didn't find any of the important ego items until about depth 30, so it was ages before I had free action, see invisible, blindness or confusion resistance, or base resists. Now I finally have all those, as well as the absolutely vital chaos resistance, and a respectable damage output as well; I lack only poison and nether resistance.

I spent everything I had --- potions of healing, arrows of holy might, and all my scrolls of teleport and phase door --- taking down Ishikawa Goemon. His sword does not disappoint.

Just killed Malekith. He's done in 3 or 4 of my "ancestors", so I consider this to be a milestone.

Also, I found a great randart shield with immunity to cold, sound resistance, see invisible, and +3 STR. "Scale of Ice Dragon": I'm wearing it right now. Also got Dragon Boots of Free Action with resist blindness!

The quest at dungeon level 44 was Hoarmurath of Dir. His greater undead summons were at least as problematic as he was himself; one Ringwraith I can kill, but I can't fight Charon, Judge Death, Hoarmurath, and an Iron Lich all at once. Quests on small levels are always a bit nerve-wracking, and in the end I just *destructed* Charon to minimize the risk of dying stupidly. Undead chain-summoning can be nasty!

Oh, and another close call: Rinaldo's blood curse completely blindsided me and left me sitting at 66 HP in front of a Dracolich which had just breathed nether on me. Good thing I resisted, and that I was at a healthy life total when I dealt the killing blow to Rinaldo. I guess I wasn't anticipating the famous blood curse already at depth 40... Next time I won't come near one of those damn Amberites with a 10-foot pole, unless I really think I'm buff.

A Master Mindcrafter dropped the randart helmet of Scorpio, providing me with my first source of resist poison this game! It also comes with confusion resistance and a +2 to speed and constitution. Very nifty, and well worth the sacrifice of telepthy, since now I have a Rod of Detection anyway.
