Yep, that's 1700 damage per round against the Serpent, and about 85% accuracy.

The peak damage from that Death Scythe is deadly. Even worse when it strikes back!

That's where Poseidon parentage really helps.. with a normal character swinging 70% accuracy, you have a 10% chance of return blow every strike. With 6 strikes, the odds of getting 3 return blows is Comb(6,3)*0.1^3*0.9^3 = 1.5%. (10.1% chance of 2 return blows)
With Poseidon and 85% accuracy, that drops to
Comb(6,3)*0.05^3*0.95^3 = 0.2%. (2.85% chance of 2 return blows)
This things slices apart Ninja Tonberries in a single round.
Still it's very... stressful! Even 600 HP isn't safe with this weapon, and I have to lead off with Hurin to soften up all the monsters!

I wonder what happens if you kill the Serpent of Chaos and the returning hit kills the player at the same time. Still a winner?

Yep, still a winner as long as you kill the Serpent before you die. I think in Hengband there were situations where a player killed the Serpent as his last action, because the Serpent's minions killed him right afterwards...
