Kemenraukar have high protection and are resistant to criticals, so you would probably have been better switching to a bigger weapon (here Glend looks perfect!) to take it down quickly.

Their attack is (+11, 4d8) so it is pretty unusual for them to hit you and they would never get criticals. So the max damage is 32 - 5 = 27. It sounds like it got very lucky.

Of course, when one dies it is normally to a creature that got very lucky!

I'm glad to see the filthy rag of Dungalef getting some use now that we made it better!
