Just my little gnome mage poking around at 1600 now for some stat potions. After 1400 I started to see a lot of artifacts and a had a few vaults and small vaults, finally getting powerful enough to kill things, had to leave Mim alone twice before. Every time I find a staff of summoning I use it and recharge it till it blows up. On one occasion I could recharge it like 30-35 times, not sure how many it was, but it was a lot, I killed 2 uniques which got summoned. I also got a few mobs from 2000-2200 range with this, sometimes it got scary, but my trusty cloak teleported me outta there every time and after healing up went back and laid down the law. I'm a packrat, so I keep stuff in my home even if I know I will never need it :)

Update at level 37. At 1650 I saw my first Greater Vault, which I mostly cleared, a few things I teleported away, cause I had no chance against them. The Osyluth was one of them, that was from 3250, more than a match for my little gnome mage. Then two uniques I just couldn't even dent them. Lorgan and Gorlim, anything immune to all my spells and my weak arrows are a challenge. Guess I have to work out something else, maybe get a fast weapon and hack these things to death or something. One manabolt drops my health by 1/3rd, that was the first nasty thing really I couldn't do anything about. Otherwise a bunch of runes of protection and lotsa casting did wonders. Need more speed though, so hopefully I'll find some soon.

Arrived to 2000 feet while reached CL39, so far doing ok, using a lot of detection since my HP is not high enough for the really nasty breaths. Still need one single DEX potion to max that out and I could use a few excellent or superb levels :) Been reading around on the r.g.r.a. and other places and I don't like that mages are best with arrows, so I'm trying to not use arrows at all if possible. The problem with this plan is that I'm still missing Raal's and Kelek's and Transer's books. I found the other 2 like a dozen times now, getting frustrating. Fun thing was when wearing out one of my staff of summonings as I usually do, managed to summon Kavlax, that was a fun fight, but I prevailed in the end. All the artifacts I found so far were pretty much useless to me, I mean weapons and weapons which have nothing good on them, I try to stay away from melee anyway. Unless I meet a troll or Orc pit, then I lure them in a corridor and push left or right till they all die. Well that's it, not having much luck with the Black Market, I havent' seen anything useful there in more than 25 trips to town.

You're a gnome mage. Is it really worth the penalties to wear Cammithrim?

Unique gloves don't give penalties to spellcasting. I discovered this accidentally. Put it on when I figured I carry one more item to town and was surprised that my mana stayed the same. I don't have any other light resist at the moment, so it helps with that too.

Wha? No way!?! I'll have to check this out.

I did get to 41, but only went down one level, still didn't find anything I need. Poison res, speed, some nether/chaos/disenchant resist would be nice. Or just a book, fights take very long sometimes, magic missile can kill everything, even MHDs but it takes forever, found a few smaller vaults, but not even a decent artifact anywhere. Killed the Queen Ant and she dropped a [0,4] crown, and that was her best item, heh. Ohh well, at least one less unique, I met 43 and killed 42 so far. Tried to swap around equipment, but I didn't like the setup, so far Hold Life is one of the most useful resists I have. I can tank a Lich or Master Vampire, while I hammer him with spells. Very rare that something, like a Night Mare bites me and I lose XP, one less potion to carry around with me. Maybe one day I find a rod which helps me out with this.

So I recall to 2000, "what a boring level". First monster is Uvatha the Horseman. After a few runes and some bolts he is dead. I see a book which I havent' seen before, so I press L and it's a stupid cleric book. Holy Infusions, Grrr :) Well I'm gonna start adventuring deeper, books or no books.

Level 43 now, still no books, I did find some rPoison rings, so at least that's covered. Found 3 smaller vaults, some middle sized and zero artifacts. Not sure I can even attempt to go below 2500, but we'll see. 50 uniques are dead, some of them were real easy with 0% fail runes.

Although Rezi is level 45 now, I have a tough time around 2300 right now. I found almost all cleric books, except the last one, but mage books still elude me. Last small vault had 3 different cleric books, and no mage books. But I'm sure if I make it deeper I will find them, it's just probably would be much easier with them. Heh, I just noticed that I have a nice number as cash. Would be nice to buy something, the Black Market never has anything, probably once I'm deeper they will have a RoS +3 or something stupid like that. After I made this dump I just found Evenstar, so that should take care of my growing problem of nethering and life sucking beasts. Plus I can replace my trusty robe with something better, although I will lose sustains, but with the jewel it shouldn't be a big problem.

Met Eol just after Rezi reached level 47 and recalled to 2500. Eol was a nasty fight, he would summon so much stuff, yet I barely got any good loot from the summoned ancient dragons or vampire lords. Anyway in a long battle I lured him into a dead end and then I just acid bolted him to death. He dropped my 15th Resistances of Scarabtarices or whatever book. At 2500 and still didn't find any decent books. I'm reading other people dumps and they had all books before 2000, very not cool, but whatever, I'm still kicking ass, just things take longer to kill. I got a few things I would like to wear, I just can't find a good combination of these so I can cover the necessary resists and other goodies. Sound and shard is not really an issue right now, but the rest is very much needed. Thorin shield would be nice, but I would lose fire and electric resistance if I just swap it out.

Well it's clear now that I have no chance killing Morgy while I'm level 47 or even 48. While killing some demons in big numbers I managed to get to level 49 and I'm not even at 3000 yet. But finally at 2600 I had a very good level, 2 books I REALLY REALLY needed and 3 artifacts. Ar-Pharazon was a nasty fight, but I won, used up a lot of potions, but I killed the mofo. Now that I'm good with books and most resists I started to climb downstream. Made a bit of a cash, hopefully some speed rings show up in black market before I finish the game. Wish I could keep all the artifacts, so I can see where did I get them all, cause I'm too lazy to write a log about it :) Anyway I thought with a mage I will be forced to use arrows, didn't know then what the Kelek book spells can do. Or rift, jeebus that's a nasty spell, especially in a big room. That was the only way I found to kill Master Mystics. That and manastorm. Another spell I had no idea how insane is, but at least hound and orc-clearing is real fast now. While was trying to see what equipment I should be using I managed to end up without any item which let's me see invis monsters, so if they don't have a brain I gotta detect them every round. Thankfully so far those are rather rare and easily killable.

Well I'm level 50, yet still hurting and not even at 3000. Cleared some nifty vaults, like one superb level had a Planet X and a The I of the storm vault. That was nice, although I only found one artifact on all the OOD things. Well at least Saruman dropped 3 artifacts on the boring level.

Find a good RoCON and swap that RoINT to it, and you'll notice thinks getting _a lot_ easier.

You need only 18/200 INT to get 0% failure rate, and your HP are way too low.

Yep once I got my +5 CON ring, got an extra 200 HP, which helps a lot. Probably I should look around in my home and rethink my whole setup, but I'm so lazy, that requires work, heh heh. Other than that I'm doing great with the Kelek book. First +5 RoCON I saw at 3150, things happen rather slowly, but it's all good, I'm a patient one :) Thx for the advice btw, I knew I have to get some more CON, but I was holding out till I get a decent one.

Slowly progressing, still not at 3500, but it has been a relatively risk free journey since I got 800+ HP. Lotsa detects, lotsa artifacts, a few vaults here and there, cleaned my first undead pit. massacred 2 dragon pits and took care of a few zoos. Got a few coin, now I'm just waiting for the Black Market to actually have something worthy for shelling out cash :)

Just arrived to 4000 and at the same time got to 30mil XP. I know I'm slow, but I've never been so deep, so I'm killing very slowly, still don't know what monsters can do, especially the ones which showed up recently. Also I like to explore the whole level, and I kill everything on each level. Had a few superb levels with nothing more than a pit on them, and some lucky or so levels with 2 smaller vaults and such, so I don't trust the level feeling anymore. I've been trying to mix and match my artifacts, but just can't seem to get a decent combination, which I would give up my current one for. The main problem is the absolutely necessary resists and the high INT/CON. However if you read this and you think you have a good idea, please do share it with me :) In the meanwhile I'm gonna hoard speed rings, as you can see (or you can't if i already updated it) I'm taking back to town 7 speed rings and just found Narya too. I know I have a lot of cash, but I like to visit town here and there and increase my fortune, maybe one day something will costs 20mil in the Black Market, hehe.

At 4600 now, it's not far now, just hit 41 million XP. Found Soulkeeper and with that I worked out a much better gear setup. I did have to give up a few points of spell points and right now I don't have elecricity resistance, but I gained a lot of other resistances, 3 immunities and about 60 AC, which works out much better. I just have to watch to cast resistance before I fight things which have big lightning breath, other than that it's smooth sailing right now. I don't know how many uniques are in 3.0.1, but I met 94 and killed 94 so far. Found 93 artifacts so far, I think there is 136 or so, so there is still a lot of them out there, like Ringil. Not that I really need it, cause I'm selling RoS +11s all the time and sold some speed boots too. I just hope 34 will be good enough later on too, if not well then I'm in a world of hurt later on :)

Andy: Main reason why your spellcasting didn't change when you put on Cammithrim is because it gives FA. Gloves which give FA or +dex don't impair spellcasting.

I'm pretty sure you're going to die due to having no lightning resistance, but...

Thanks for the advice, I'll play around with the stuff. Guess selling Pauraegen was a bad idea after all, hehe, now it would be quite useful.
Ohh and casting resistance all the time for res_elec is not nearly as effective as having a res_elec item then?

Well I got really bored around the end, so I just massacred Sauron and jumped to Morgy right away. Since this was my first Morgy try I didn't take any chances, so I used a lot of restore mana and kept him behind walls till he was close, then Rifted him over and over and over. He only summoned a few times, nothing dangerous, a few teleports and mass genocide later he was alone again, took me like 20 minutes to kill him, but he died after all. He did mana storm me once and hit me twice, those were kinda nasty, since I went down to as low as 200 HP, but that's was the closest I came to dying, I tried one round of melee, but that just wasn't right with my gnome mage. Well I'm gonna see what's behind the levels below him, but I have another mission now, to get out from Halls of Mandos in Tome with my lost soul.

Feanor not seen in 8 years of playing and The One is only a dream. You get better items deep into dungeon, but it can still take year or so to find them all.

Ouch, years huh, well I might not bother to find it all then, hehe. I'm a collector type gamer, I wasn't happy till I had all sets completed in Diablo2 when it came out, but eventually I gave up on getting all unqiues, so I will get bored of it, however I'm only at 5600 right now, so I have more to go.

Well, I found Feanor in a GCV at 5850. At least I think that's what that vault is called, big vault with rooms, each room has a monster in it. Same vault had Eonwe too. Now I'm sure I won't see One ring or Bladestopper ever :)

Uhoh, timo.pietila@helsinki.fi will be mad at me, cause the two items he said above I got them both :) One Ring just dropped from a Great Wyrm of Many Colors, he summoned a few of his friends, so not sure if it was him or some other Wyrm, but it dropped. Now that I only move back and forth between 6300 and 6350 I see some insane levels, like 3-4 vaults and such, and sometimes an artifact, according to the log thing I found 120 so far, in 3.0.1 there are 136, so there is 16 which is missing, like Ringil.

Well while hunting for the rest of the artifacts and unqiues I somehow managed to max out XP. Probably won't post anymore dumps till I got all artifacts, if I ever will that is. This was a fun character, but it's getting boring to plow dozens of undead and demon pits with a few smaller and occasionally a greater vault.

call me a noob but why did you use rift to kill morgy? using the spell calculator on thangordrim.net with your int i figure youd be doing 40+50d7 dmg for an average of 215 dmg. Compare that to mana storm which with the 14% fail rate youd be doing an average of 344 dmg. In fact youd be getting on average better dmg from mana storm with a fail rate<46%. With both spells costing the same 30 sp why sacrifice that extra (depending on the randomness of the rng) 129 dmg? is there something im missing?

Well as I said I had no idea what to expect, I just knew he will be summoning a lot, so what I started the fight with was a lot of letting him getting into LOS then tossing him away, this way he couldn't summon almost at all. Since my HP wasn't really high and I was trying to be cautious, this way worked for me and I just stuck with it. I assume phase dooring and manastorming would've work just as well, but that never occured to me at the time. This was my very first kill and my first time to even reach that depth.

hmm. well morgy not being able to summon is a very useful thing...i'll keep that in mind when i get down to visit morgy(eventually). anyways awesome win and an awesome char.
