Giving ironman a bit of a go and the game is rewarding me with tons of nice stuff. Gondolin, Doriath, final rest weapons, Amrod, Caranthir, Shield of Hador...

This character I had no plan for starting out, and I waited a long time to get melee/evasion abilities. Having found a lot of nice light weapons I've gone with finesse, and because of my shield I went for blocking/controlled retreat. But I'm not sure what to do from here... Going stealthy seems natural with this gear, I could go opportunist -> rapid attack.

Dump updated. Just started on 550ft, but I'm finished for tonight.

Quite enjoying the challenge mode, it's more fun and tense not being able to take the easy way out by using stairs all the time.

Found Amras on 550... Time to dual wield Amrod and Amras??

Well that was random, some nothing encounter which I didn't take seriously.

Commiserations. I definitely know the embarrassment side of that feeling.

Was this your first attempt at Ironman? I haven't tried it.

Nice to see that pair of blades raised together, by the way.

Scatha: Not the first time I've tried. I played a few in the last version, but the challenges were a bit buggy so I only gave it a brief try. The furthest I got was around ~350 and had some "incidents" with worm masses, which seem to be a big concern early on for this.

I will try some more at it, I want to get at least around cat depth, where I often cat chased off the level by cats, greater werewolves and kemenrauko and see how I can fare.

Dual wielding the swords of Amrod and Amras is great! I think you might be the first to do so. I've done it with Anglachel and Anguirel. Presumably people have used Orcrist and Glamdring. I think that might be all the pairs. (Of course in terms of what is *best* to dual-wield, it normally involves one heavier and one lighter...)
