Hmm, calming is all Eytan Zweig's work. Doesn't sound like a bug necessarily, but would a different behavior be better for gameplay?

And as is, calming powder and wand are difficult to use effectively as things stand. There's the doubled check against unharmed, sure, but it neither helps you kill them nor let you properly escape from the dudes without using some other resource. I guess that it might help you escape to a faery portal or staircase that's relatively nearby, but maybe that's better done with ghost dark? Especially since they stop hugging you.

I haven't playtested deeper levels much, so I'll trust your opinion if you want to make certain monsters easier or harder. :)
