This elf is so strong I feel a tad bad for the opponents. Young cold drake (200 feet out of depth) did not manage to get even one hit on me. Good turn count too compared to the usual (11k turns and basically done with 600 feet).

BUT I STILL DO NOT HAVE LOREMASTER AND IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY.

Dropped like 4 different rings and amulets because I could not ID them and had no room either. All that missing ID XP is killing me.

Funny thing is I have +3 gauntlets of the forge AND Nimphelos, meaning at any time, I can bump my smithing to 18. But with all that smithing, I still can't make anything because I'm not finding forges.

Err highlight of this game was me eating random herbs, not being able to ID any of them, especially the wrinkled herb. I found 2 early on. Was like, that's probably sustenance or emptiness. If I eat two, it'll ID. Nope. But I forgot I was at full HP. And it didn't take the 4th herb that I finally ID'ed it. I jumped into a nearby spiked pit to do it...because I had an epiphany that perhaps I never tried eating it when I wasn't at full HP.

Shadow cloak is probably...rCold or vulCold. Don't know which yet because this lady never gets hit! Snow trolls and Ringrauko go down before they even get a chance to hit me. I'll have to find a serpent...

Great Axe of Hador's House is...idk. It just looks like a sweet weapon. Originally was planning to use it to hack down grotesques, but now that I have song of sharpness, I'm not sure what it's good for.

I will probably get opportunist soon too. Glamdring is nice and all, but I really really really. Do not. Like. To chase. Kemenraukos.

Also considering just going straight for my great speed artefact. I can get up to um...39 smithing if I pour all of my saved XP into smithing.

I want 2x+2 damage rings. And Taur-nu-Fuin and Aredhel...so I'm going to have to sacrifice one of those if I really want to put great speed on something.

Aredhel's probably the worst of the bunch, but I need it right now because it's my only source of free action.

I'm not sure how many charges are on my _rev, but I just used a 7 charge _recharging on it, so it has at least that many...

Every single _rev I've ever seen has had at least 5-6 charges, so I guess this one should have around 12-13 total charges then?

As for how to use it, I guess you just go up and down stairs until you find a forge?

There's a 3 use enchanted on my current floor, so I'm pretty happy about that. Because it means I get to make some gloves.

Plans are to get mithril gauntlets with opportunist and riposte, with +1 damage side, which is 42 difficulty. I can reach 39 without the enchanted forge. So it's perfect.

On 1.5.2017 07:38 protopulse wrote:
Oh yea, that's 3 floors in a row with 3 use forges, so I guess that makes up for the early game. And I guess not having loremaster didn't end up mattering in the end.

Only annoying thing is I can't tell how many charges are on any of my staves without a _understanding. Getting channeling is out of the question. Too much XP for too little gain.

Oh yea, I need to hurry up and find another forge so I can get rid of that cloak and remake it into one with free action on it, then I can swap back Taur-nu-Fuin.

Actually almost died earlier because I got entranced by a great cold D. Good thing it wasn't him who got the first hit off on me, but some trolls between us. He happened to be sitting on those mithril greaves of free action though, so I snatched that after kicking him out of his own lair so there won't be a repeat of what happened.

On 1.5.2017 07:56 protopulse wrote:
So let's see, I suppose I'll make a +2 dex ring and a +2 dmg ring to round things up...

Cloak will be something like (+1)[+1] Dex<+1> rCold Free Action for 40 difficulty. Have to find a forge to make a crown of grace first though for that extra point. Or find another enchanted forge.

Then, just have to make masterpiece weapon...or maybe not masterpiece it at all since that kills the fun imo. A simple fire-branded sharpness mithril longsword is 42 difficulty, well within reach. Oh wait a second...I can make one of those right now at that 3 use enchanted forge. HRMM. Need to grab momentum after though since mithril longswords are so light. That or add a bit of mithril to it but that'll add both difficulty and hurt its crit rate.

On 1.5.2017 07:58 protopulse wrote:
Cold branded with sharpness is 46 difficulty. 39 currently. 7 more...I don't know if I can get 27 smithing. Where would I even find the XP...? Like nothing gives me XP anymore except the occasional big D or nameless thing.

Quite impressive. Getting to this point is not easy. From here, overconfidence would be my biggest foe. A pit is still a pit and I recall a situation where I ended up cornered by a large number gwathrauko, two Balrogs and some troll guards. Almost made it, just almost.

On 1.5.2017 15:32 protopulse wrote:
Oh yikes. That sounds like absolute hell. Two gwathraukos together still cause trouble for me. Pits would be rough too. Halves evasion. IIRC, it takes a dexterity check of some sort to get out at least, and this character isn't lacking in that department. Still have to be careful for sure.

On 3.5.2017 00:26 ripforareason wrote:
Proposal: finish this character.

Suggestion: You can reach 39 smithing boosted, so get 2 rings of damage <+2>, a cloak with more evasion (trick: Make a shadow cloak of something and then decrease the special bonus) and a longsword with sharpness and venom brand and maybe rapid attack or momentum.

Also, I really don't recommend 2 weapon fighting for smithers. The shield slot can fit a lot of useful things on it, for instance, and early shield with [+1, 1d3], rPois, and rFear. Offhand shortswords are kind of overrated, imo. it can be good in the throne room, but it will be outdone by rapid attack and a lot of damage sides.

I do have plans to finish a character eventually, but not this one.

Forgot about that shadow cloak trick. Will have to try it out. Is ring of damage really better than +2 dex ring? 24 evasion is nice, but it's not out of this world nice, and things will still hit me.

As for two weapon fighting, it was mostly because I realized other than 1 evasion and 1d3 protection difference, I wasn't getting a whole lot more out of the deflection shield than I would out of Dagmor. And Dagmor would provide a bit of extra damage + extra light and rFear. Its +2 to-hit would negate most of the -3 dex on your offhand attack. I don't know how much extra damage I would get out of it, but it'd still be better than the shield. I hardly need protection at this point and 1d3 does absolutely nothing when enemies hit 3d11. But you're right that offhand can be used for resists, and I could have made an artefact shield.

Haven't tried rapid attack yet (I think mostly because of the awkward build path), but will have to give it a shot sometime.

Yes, damage rings are much better. If you get rapid attack it's probably best to stick it on your sword. Since you can get at least 38 smithing you could actually make an offhand mithril sharp+poison weapon and then a masterpiece main-hand weapon, which would be neat. But you'd probably run out of time to make anything else.

I've seen 7 forges this game and one is on the current level. So I guess 8. With 5k turns left, I probably won't be seeing a lot more, even with my however many charge _rev. So yea, pretty tight time window.

Any reason you like poison brand so much? Is poison actually better than fire? I think they're around similar difficulty.

Poison costs 8 less than frost and 4 less than fire. Nothing resists it of note except ancient spiders and undead, which are weak in the first place. Balrogs, Dragons, Morgoth, Trolls, Raukar, etc. don't.

I forgot to add: Fire is actually bad, because some raukar, I think dragons, Balrogs, etc. resist it. Morgoth doesn't, but it's still more expensive than poison. Any sharp branded weapon will utterly destroy the throne room, so you should pick whatever allows you to get the most damage sides.

For instance, a (+1, 2d7)[+2] poison sharp longsword is 60 difficulty. This allows you to utilize up to 7 points of strength, and with 2 damage rings, you will hit for (3d15)x2 vs. non-resistant enemies, BEFORE criticals. If you happened to have subtlety you would get some crazy hits with 6/crit and Song of Slaying. You could possibly see 100s - this is like triple wielding a deathblade in your main hand.

Are difficulties different in mpa-sil? I'm finding the same longsword to be 69 difficulty.

And where do you get the 7 points of strength from? Not following on that part. A longsword is defaulted to 3 lbs. So even with momentum, that's 6 strength you'll be utilizing. 2d7+6 str = 2d13. With 2 x damage rings<+2>, that's 3d17 on non-resistant enemies.

I get the gist of what you're saying though.

It's a mithril longsword, 2.0lb (+1, 2d7)[+2] Poison Sharpness Danger. With rapid attack and momentum you can utilize 2*weight + 3 strength for 2*weight extra die, bringing us to 3d(7 + 4 + 4 = 15).
