One of my best characters ever, died from carelessness during stat-gain. It had no problem eliminating any threat from a distance - but I wasn't paying attention and got caught by a pile of creeping adamantite coins while I was burdened (not that that made much of a difference since it was much faster than me anyway), and then teleport failed (1% fail rate!), and then the tombstone.
