So... my first Bard. Rapper, to be more precise. I found that I can't dive quite as fast as with a warrior.

Bards have somewhat wimpy melee capabilities, but make up for with the awesomeness that is Wrecking Note. One spell, like Magic Missile but with the added bonus of putting the opponent into a daze. All for two mana. Great against spellcasters.

Bards also have cool songs like Song of Holding (constantly attempts to slow all monsters in LOS for two mana per turn) and Song of Healing (cure light wounds every turn for a couple mana per turn). I think I'm mangling the names but you get the idea. When I'm in a tight spot, I just whip out the Song of Holding or of Life and run like hell.

Recently I learned an Identify song and Clairaudience, both of which are extremely useful. I also picked up the Hellfire Tome on level 16 or something (wth?), sold it for 30K, and used the cash to buy a Cloak of the Bat (since my melee was crap anyway, I just decided to nuke it totally) and a Ring of Light and Darkness Resistance and Light. Gauntlets of Magic Mastery and a Dagger with Tele-Orc round out the amazing kit with which I'll begin my third dive.

Well... I am not diving as fast as I'd hoped. Robin Hood had an *AWESOME* drop on level 20: Eriril and a randart armor with res fire, poison, chaos, and free action. Fantastic. Also I purchased some nice stuff like a Cap of Seeing (res blind), so I think I'm ready to start diving for real now.

Well, this is where it gets insanely hard. Most monsters at this depth are a challenge for poor Sushi, so he has to be extremely cautious... which is kind of hard because his stealth is crap. Doomcall is my new toy, but it costs a huge amount of mana.

No new items since dungeon level 20 or so. I am praying for the first dungeon book (I guess that would be Harps of Rivendell).

Dead. The proximate cause of death could be said to have been overuse of the expensive Soul Shriek, which left me with no mana, which forced me to teleport around like crazy. Which lead to death before I could recall. Nasties on the level included a Minotaur, a Black Knight, and an Ancient Red.
