This char is going really well, I'm finding mystics to be ridiculously easy.

nice finds include:
rod of recall, thalkettoth, Trident(defender),
longsword of slay demon (+2 int).

I can't decide between the longsword or the trident, The longsword gives *20* extra sp (it has +2 to int), but the defender is, well, a defender: basic resists, FA, imm. to f/x of disease, SI, regen, feather. That FA would come in real handy soon, i'm quickly approaching 1000 ft.

saw an amulet of sustenance in the BM, but couldn't afford it...
that's all fer now...

completed a special quest, which was very... 'interseting'. :) let's just say that there was a 'D' in the quest vault.

The ancient blue fell after a very intense short battle. He was in the innermost chamber of the vault, seperated by a wall. I filled the floor around the one granite stone(it was all perma-rock exept for one spot) with lesser glyphs of warding, stood off to one side and cast stone to mud on the stone and then pelted the ancient blue with fire bolts and a staff of holiness wich was conveiently lying around.

I was very lucky he didn't breathe, because I didn't realize until the battle was over that I was missing Relec !!

I came out of that vault with some nice shiny ego-weapons (three defenders and two 'of carnage'), a staff of speed and some other nice treasure.

oh yeah, I found nar-i-vagil, when I wear it, my sp goes from 97->153. :) it has +3 to int.

One last comment, I have never (seriously) used a weapon with this char. I just MM everything in sight. I think I might've accidently killed a few orcs, but other than that, I've never killed anything with H-T-H combat.

P.S: I think I finally have settled on one variant after trying dozens. I'm loven' everything i've seen in eyangband thus so far. keep up the great work eytan!

Quite nice char. Somehow i find mystics to be very easy in ey. At least at the beginning. At least angel and felpur mystics.

One thing i probably would have done otherwise, i actually did with my mystic, i'm still using Hithlomir for the basic resist instead of Thalkettoth. Shard resistance is not so important, its got quite low damage cap. Higher basic resists are probably worth the 20 pounds of extra weight.

I'we never found any use for the two first prayer books as a mystic, is there any usefull spells?

the only thing remotly useful in book 1 is cure light wounds, because it heals a % instead of 2d4 or whatever it is in V. Still, I never used it once. it might be good for a early preist, but not a mystic. But nothing useful in the second book? how about portal? Resist fire & cold ? satisfy hunger? :) I use it alot.

I'm wearing Thalkettoth because (much to my suprise) it grants +3 to speed in ey! That bonus alone makes it better than hithlomir.(imho)

All the following is IMO.

At your level you have the third priest book cure critic which cures a lot more. and is not too expensive considering mystics mana reserve.
Portal in second priest book... right what about teleport in mages second and beam of light and stone to mud ... not mentioning absorb because this must be on always :)
resistance spells... at the time i really need them (great wyrms etc.) i'm using absorb and i have first mystic book.
satisfy hunger... in third mages book, with other usefull spells(ident, acid bolt, create door etc.)

ok the +3 speed bonus is nice. but at your level you have haste (+10 speed) and at that level, i value high elemental resists above small speed boost.
and i didn't need speed ... due to an early +10 speed ring :)

Oops, didn't notice those overlaps in the preist and mage books. thanx for pointing that out. :)

I have found the small speed boost from thalkettoth to be very useful when fighting low-level uniques, being able to get an extra hit in every once in a while helps alot sometimes. I usualy have gotten all the basic resist from other stuff by now tho, so I wasn't worried when I sold hithlomir.

thanx for your advice,

not much to update on... killed mim tho. the little @#$%^&* died to scoot & shoot... after a half an hour. The fight was spread out over half the dungeon, ducking behind walls and slipping down dark corridors, hopping all over the place with phase door.
I used up several restore mana potions and a couple of healing.

Oh, one last thing, am I using the best rings? I must have a dozen in my home which would be useful.

Your ring collection is pretty nice :) and your ring choice is optimal. You really need SI and you probably don't want to give up CON bonus (how many HPs it's giving?), but if you want to swap CON ring I would go for +Mana (more SPs) one or +Str (for carrying capacity). Don't you have troubles with elemental breathes with your HPs without resist? Maybe you could consider elec/acid ring too.

No boots? Nothing useful turned up and you are saving weight because of low strength?

You sold Phial? Although mystic really don't need it's activation, I keep it for sentimental reasons. :)

elemants don't bother me because I have celegorm.(rbase + rlight/rdark) As for rings, I agree. But I'm not willing to give up *83* HP for more mana (I'm already getting ~+200 from equipment) or carrying capacity (+5 to speed (total) from thalkettoth and bard)

Oh yeah, I'm getting FA from bard.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I found some boot of slow descent, but the were *metal shod* boots of slow descent and were WAY too heavy to wear.

Celegorm is a bit heavy (for mystic), hopefully youll find another nice shield soon.

You can drop the cure poison/disease items ... the cleric spells from "chants..." take care of that.

rings of protection, accuracy and damage and amulet of brightness ... i dont think you are ever going to need them, mystic is too weak as a fighter. spells are your friends.

any ideas how to survive with mystic without the Absorb hit?

and be careful, very careful ... your HP is too low for such depth IMHO.
