I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do against gas monsters resistant to my weapon type. I can't deal ANY damage to them, even while berserk, so I have to run away. Maybe I can put some points in Use Device and use ray guns on them?

Yes, jiangshi hit for _lots_ of damage; on the other hand, they often drop nice stuff. The glasses turn up fairly often. And using a shotgun with buckshot works well against immaterial stuff.
