Bye Bye Babble.
Nothing but luck, without a doubt. If you look at the message log, I was firing _regular arrows_. I forgot to drop them off at home, and I use the same inscription and macro for both seekers and normal arrows. He just failed casting spells enough that I knocked his health down pretty quickly, then he started blinking and doing nothing else. The first time he blinked, I followed, since I was standing in the doorway. I expected him to cast something and kill me, but I got one shot in, he blinked again, and it was all over after that, even though I had only 136hp left. Just had to stand in place and fire. Is this an AI problem or was I really just that lucky? There's no where for him to run, so he might as well cast spells like crazy and hope to kill me, no?

Actually, I nearly had a similar incident happen a while back. Can't remember the character, but it was the same strategy (wasn't an archer, though, so my odds were rather longer).

The character got incredibly lucky, landing a few early hits and knocking an apparently low hp babble down to 1 hp, at which point it panicked and started blinking around, trying to get away. Of course, there was no where for it go, so I was able to keep shooting.

Unfortunately, my lucky then went as bad as it started good. I only needed 1 more hit to pull off the amazing upset, but instead he went 0 for 40 or so, long enough for the babble to regenerate a hp and stop panicking. Once it got its act back together, it quickly came back and kicked my butt.
