Already, I am 70% more deadly than Mrs. Jones in melee. I was hoping for a good pick in the General Store (after farming white worms, and digging quite a bit), but I lucked into a nice Broad Sword. I'm back on DL1 to build up to beginner skill, and then I will try the Thieves. Hopefully, I have a high innate Dex ... I would just love to see 3 attacks early with this class!

Yes! I killed my first warg, leveled up to CL8, and picked dex again. Bam! 3 attacks for 51 damage :)

Boy, I was ready to give up on this guy a couple of times. First, my CL2 quest was for Smeagol. Lacking SI and only having 10' of Infravision, there was no way. Plus the level was practically full sized. I managed to hit him twice, and even got a star off him. Meng You was tough, hitting for 100hp of melee damage at one point ... I only had 138hp at the time! Stupid double moves. No distance attack, so 6 runs thru my hp teleporting away every 1 or 2 rounds of melee, but I got him. More crap rewards, though.

Eventually, King Duosi dropped a sling of accuracy (+16, +2), and I figured I better have some distance attack. I blew my gold enchanting it up to +8, and stockpiling 500 shots for the Sewer. The Crocodile dropped another ?WeaponDam and I tried my luck, getting my sling up to +9 damage! Yay! Still, shooting for 28 total damage is rather weak. It'll help with the Orcs, but with my bad stealth, I really don't think I can do that quest yet.

In other thoughts, I was thinking about the passive "Detect Artifacts" ability of the Archaeologist. Other than the Vault quest, is there another reasonable use for it? I mean, I guess you could use it to gauge whether you really want to open up a vault with nasties inside, but most of the time, if you see a "Special" status, it'll be because you killed a monster, and presumably would have checked the loot anyway.

OK, I've been thinking about this class, and it really shouldn't be necessary to (a) play high elves and half titans and (b) rely so heavily on shooting. I'll open a thread to discuss some possible changes.
