I ran into a vault on DL13 with Bill and Luigi in it. Tempted to flee down the stairs, I decided to fight my way out instead. Leveled up 9 levels, and gained about 260hp in the process, plus I picked up a fourth attack.

I got pretty lucky with quest monsters, though Moire is no slouch. And I figured the queen ant would be a pushover, but I figured very wrong. She went down with 500hp to spare, but I was surrounded by fire ants, and nearly died. Down to double digits is scary with a zerk. She gave Corwin, Dawn and Thalkettoth, which was nice of her.

Rolento too was pretty fierce. I tunneled out of sight and waited for him to come to me, but for some reason, he preferred to stay out of line of sight and summon exploding grenades. They don't hurt much, and I just sat there quaffing !CCW waiting ... Eventually I realized he was in some stupid Lure mode, which was actually pretty damn effective, so I had to come out in the open. Often, this spells death for a zerker, but not this time. Runespear for my troubles, and Arverdui.

Now to stay put and get a few stat potions.

Even with 990hp, +3 speed, 700+ damage per round, Gachapin was a PITA. And this at DL36 which is 12 levels below where he normally shows up. Bastard swapped my stats about with Toxic Breath, too, but it only swapped Str and Con. After that, I'm going sub-optimal in order to cover poison. Also, playing without hold life is not an option due to vanilla town mode. You need about 3 or 4 !Restore Life every trip down, and the game generates less than 1% that much. So, add in Hagen for speed and damage is only 500. Shame too, because with Zantetsuken and Runespear, I was probably close to a cool 1k.
