Returning shots make ammo management easy. Not only it lasts for much longer, you also don't run out during fights and have less picking up to do afterwards. Lots of tedium removed.

And shoot on the run is ... it's kind of stupid :). Very convenient.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that monsters with reflection do counter physical missiles as well as bolt spells--I think it's just that there aren't that many monsters that have reflection to begin with. Certainly at ~3000' I haven't run into many I can remember; maybe one or two.

This is not the case. I have run an Archer to level 50 and never had a projectile reflected on me.

If this were the case then playing an archer would be impossible since a lot of monsters actually *do* have reflection.

Fake edit: Found it! In the release notes for Chengband v0.0131:

◦Monster Reflection now reflects player arrows/bolts/shots (50% of the time, or 25% if player is an Artemis Demigod). Oberon and The Serpent of Chaos lose Reflection (so Archers have a chance to win).
◦Monster Reflection now reflects player bolt spells 75% (was 90%)
◦Player Reflection now reflects 75% (was 90%)
◦Reflection still reflects the effect, but I think I fixed a bug in the Hengband code and I also spread out the radius a bit. Reflected player arrows won't hurt the player (but may hurt another monster).

Since this was for Chengband, I don't know how accurate it is for PosChengband.

Now that I'm in later levels I can see the difference in damage from spells/breaths (compared to pcb35). Everything hits hard(er). That's why I picked Evasion as the 2nd demigod talent (10-20% dmg less).

Peerless Sniper is fantastic. I suspected that when Jack used his spells exactly twice and only when he was at ** stars already. I knew that when great wyrms used their breath less than once on average despite walking (and getting pelted) ~8 spaces each while in breath range.

I suspect gms+rs might be bugged (rs overrides the number of shots in do_cmd_fire_aux2) but I like it that way :D. Frankly, I don't use it all that much.

Strength and dexterity affects thb but not by much. With lucky and artemis hitting is not an issue. And slingers have painted shot anyway.

Max con, that's for sure (but that's pretty much the same for every character).

I think intelligence (or was it wisdom) no longer influences device fail rates?

Funny, how constitution is even worse than before but life rating went up courtesy of +12% life rating amulet.

Further changes are unlikely uless something with a lot of resistances happens to drop (like a pdsm). Damage with "basic" shots at 655. Shots with slays go over 1k.

This time I made sure to kill P before taking on J to minimize the chance of double manastorms (poor poor Mortimer). Evasion+magic resistance made sure it wasn't even close.

J summoned thrice but nothing too scary as most scary things were already dead. About one mana breath and that's that.

To sum this character up: peerless sniper and returning ammo rule supreme. And the rapid shot + greater many shot combo, which I'm pretty sure is buggy :).

Defenders as a substitute for randart shields (I didn't get any good ones). I don't think Whistler ever hit anything with them.

J wasn't that much of a challenge. He mostly walked while getting pelted by rapidly fired shots. Not like Nodens. Nodens is scary.
