when I was still looking for a decent second ring of speed. Heck, I almost considered wearing a +1 RoS (see the Museum) but decided that Frakir was marginally better. I've since found a pair of lofty +7 rings, but this rand-art gets me with the style points. Actually, the AC boost is useful since my key spell forces me to go toe to toe.

I'm thinning uniques, but I can't find them fast enough. 121 down but 140 or so still remain. I could certainly go for the early win, but I'd like to improve my speed a bit still. Also, I need that final 3% improvement to my spell fail rates, and then at least a modicum of time to enjoy error free casting.

I guess this means the Unicorn is waiting for me at DL88. Azriel is about the limit of what I can take as far as good monsters go. Even Bahamut would have been way easier. The Unicorn is, of course, impossible, as is Nodens.

So, I just plowed thru for the win. It was clear that +8 is the upper limit on speed rings despite finding 30 or so (only 3 better than +5). But I had enough. Its just with tiny spectre hitpoints, I'd like a bit more speed to be sure. The Serpent got me down to 100 once, and 200 a couple of times. But he died quick enough to my 750hp Divine Intervention.

The level had Nodens, Bahamut, and The Unicorn (all spawned separately) for my pleasure, but I managed to destruct them all before engaging the Serpent.

Serpent drops the Jewel again. Sigh.

Yeah, just stand next to monsters and cast Divine Intervention. It does 750hp damage, Heals 100, puts any non-unique monsters into stasis (most of the time). It also stuns and causes fear to non-unique monsters. So if you are fighting a non-unique monster, cast DI repeatedly, it generally won't wake up or even get a single move. You can even just stand next to them and rest to regain spell points. For uniques, the 750 damage is the best there is, and you don't need to worry too much about summons. The 100hp of healing per round is surprisingly useful too, and often you can go toe to toe without needed to heal much.

The sick aspect of the combo is the spectre (but you can play a mage with the passwall spell just as well, if you don't mind high spell fail rates). This completely eliminates monster summoning (most of the time ... disintegration breathers suck!) and when wounded or out of spell points, just back up into the walls. Cast Holy Word to heal back up, and eat magic to regain full spell points. Step forward and repeat.

For good monsters like Azriel, I had to use Eye for an Eye, combined with DI (now only 200hp damage as good monsters are immune to the 550hp holy damage part). Very different results, indeed! Especially once Azriel starts healing! But doable.

For The Destoyer, Wahha-Man, Rao the Conquerer, etc, use Crusade to surround them with Knights and eventually, Solars and such (Oh yeah, there is Summon Angel which is better than any trump summoning spell by far ... but I never used this). Once they are boxed in by 100 or so Ultra Elite Paladins, just stand back, Eat Magic, and lob Starbursts.
