Ok its not a titan beserker but still very good at dealing damage.

The sword is new, i got it from the Lord Borel dungeonquest, along with Shiva's boots. Thorin was granted to me by a acq scroll i got from the Barrow Down quest. I dont use my mana a lot so i think the forcebrand in this weapon will really help me out. If it doesnt ill check which other weapon is good enough.

Gachapin was nasty as dungeonquest. Titans have chaos res at birth so thats not a problem, but i didnt had res poison when i needed to kill him. So ofcourse he breathed tox mutiating me. Str and Dex dropped that bad i lost 2 bpr but my Con jumped up to 18/50 from 18, so i suddenly had a lot more hp. I needed to finish him with bolts of flame, my melee damage was cut in half.

And ill go look for a con ring to replace one of my others. ;)

Shiva's Boots *and* Thorin? Damn :)

Goln Nova is nice. Force branding is a 3.5x slay. Against demons, it is a 9.5x slay (1.5 * 5 + 2).

clvl 33 now, failed a dungeonlvl quest. I couldn't take the damage that Minotaur was dealing to me... One close call during that fight. I had like 20 hp left and just teleported and recalled. Sometimes you just have to see you can't win a fight.

Went to check out the Maulotaur but forgot i had bad stealth so getting to him was already a pain in the ass... I had to give up because i was followed by all the Warriors in the quest. That made me notice that i could use more damage. :) But im still not sure what a Time-Lord is. Hes some sort of weak superfast warrior?

The spells you learn can be usefull especially the +15 speed, and at lower levels the slow monster/mass. That really gives you an advantage, with a difference of 40 speed you can have several rounds before your opponent can move again.

Found one silly thing, you can learn spells, but you can't read... So... Which spells can be found outside books? ;)

And my Str got swapped with Wis... So i lost like 6 Str... Stupid chaos mushroom. Now i'll need some Str boosts before i find the nice heavy weapons.

Well, i bet there was more stuff i gained... but i can't remember. ;)

Clvl 37 and still alive.

I still like the Time-Lord class, the speed is just nice, loads of double moves from my side as my speed is 38 hasted. And that without speedrings!

Minor negative thing is the max of 4 blows. As a pure melee class, he doesnt do a lot of damage. Spells are pure support and his MD skills just sucks too much.

But my lack of damage could also be the result of my weapon. Only a 2d11 with +15. But it has sooo many features i like, especially the vamp. And slay everything except evil, undead, demon.

Ow and i dont get my latest spell: Rewind Time
When i use it in a town, it just tells me nothing happens. Maybe ill just try it out in a dungeon and hope i dont die. ;)

(Ow and i followed a centain persons advice with a Con ring, it grants me another 150 hp!)

On 11.12.2010 19:16 chris wrote:
Aesculapius is freakin' awesome! Its a good choice.

Rewind Time is a guaranteed escape spell, returning you instantly from the dungeon to the town with no delay. However, it has a *huge* penalty if you use it. Time is permanently rewound in a certain sense, so only use it if it will save your life.

I think the Time Lord needs some work, and I'll throw out some ideas here, clogging up Arjen's Post :) Maybe Dave has some opinions?

[1] Give Time Based magical attacks. Bolts, balls, beams. These should have time effects (see below).
[2] Work out time effects on monsters. Decrease Max HP. Permanently decrease speed by 1. Evolve. Devolve. Temp Slow. Temp Haste. Freeze. Permanently decrease AC. Perhaps remove an attack. Perhaps monster forgets spells.
[3] Implement Time Branded weapons with said effects. Give Time Branding spell.
[4] Work out a new Terrain Feature: Time Rift. Hastes or Slows or Freezes. Monsters can't pass without enduring effects, perhaps becoming trapped in time!
[5] Give new spell: Time Rift. Tears a fabric in space time, doing a large ball effect of time damage, and turning effected terrain into the new Time Rift terrain feature.
[6] Make Rings of Extra Attacks more likely to gain extra pval's.

In short, I would vote for more time based magical attacks and less of a hasty uber wimpy warrior type. Thoughts?

Having a ranged attack in the form of a time bolt/ball/beam would be nice.

Could add aging as an effect. Old monsters become more fragile, so less AC, lower saving throw, slower. Could also make a monster become younger with less HP, less AC, no smart AI (or no more spells), more speed? But putting these in a melee attack would be weird, you could make a monsters older in one blow and younger in the next. :)

The spells you gain atm are pretty nice, i used almost all of them. I didnt use devolve, decay door (but still a funny, very-this-class kind of spell) back to origins (but i didnt find any breeder getting out of control, didn't meet any Unmakers), haste monster (no pets) and rewind.

Temporal prison is a strong sleepspell but monsters still wake up after hitting them.

What i would think fits this character is some 'time-jumping' spell, just like phase door or teleport, but then it takes you back a certain amount of turns and puts you on the spot you were back then. So when fighting a monster it might not work, but escaping before the fight start can be an option. But i don't know if thats possible, or if the game actually can 'remember' what you did the last few moves.

Havent seen EA rings yet, but i think +3 is still nice as it almost doubles your bpr.

But i don't know, i'm not good with making up games, i play games. ;)

I found a way to 'use' devolve... It works in the Arena, so the vampire lord, GT can be devolved. This way you kinda of cheat your way through the Arena.

Putting this char on hold for a moment. I'm getting bored playing him and that always kills me. But i don't know where to go now after i failed that dungeonquest. And i was bored of killing wyrms as i killed 11 storm wyrms, 18 ice wyrms, 11 bile wyrms, 14 vemon wyrms, 11 hell wyrms and 1 chaos wyrm. Too many wyrms, but most were killed with poison needle.

Wondering if i just should go to Angband and start diving and maybe fail a quest or two if i can't beat the guardian.

Might going to switch Frakir for a nice damage or slaying ring. I notice i still miss a lot against higher monsters and i cant train weapons further than 'Skilled', so i can't get expert and master in them. And that kinda sucks as pure melee guy. You really can use that extra to-hit.

On 13.12.2010 15:58 chris wrote:
How about swapping your cesti of power for your dragon gloves and your suggestion of a combat ring for Frakir? An excellent ring of slaying might be nice if you can get one (your +7,+7 ring does not qualify :), but a good +15 or so ring of damage should work too. Also, raid the temple for !Heroism and ?Holy Chant and use those for every major battle. Finally, you might consider carrying the Harness of Hell as a swap item. The extra (+15, +7) over Boromir should help a bit.

I like the idea of Time effects. I think there should be an early game power (clvl 5 or so) where you cast it, and your opponent's AC is reduced permanently by some amount (-6)? That way, you can whittle down his AC, and then melee him, if you're patient. Then, there should be a late-game effect (32-38) where you imbue your attacks with Time for 25+d25 rounds. Every time you hit in melee, the opponent must make a saving throw or suffer (1) -5 AC, (2) -1 to their attack damage dice, (3) or unhealable damage. I think -speed would be too much (and besides, Time attacks don't normally slow you, except in so far as it reduces your STR and potentially increases your burden).

With Time Essentia, you're getting 6 blows and 2 shots, which is pretty good, and out of the "wimpy" range. Maybe the way to balance is to make this ability available earlier?

On 13.12.2010 18:45 Arjen wrote:
Hmmm picked up the Heriosm potions and changed my gloves lacking blind res. But RNG wanted me to have res Blind so i found better power gloves +5+2 +4 with blind res... So... Yay? :) 30 more damage!

And i don't like aggr but maybe thats just me.

The time attack sounds nice, but how well do monsters resist spells? I notice higher monsters resist like 75% of my spells. (Evolving a young dragon to wyrm takes all my mana most of the time.) If this also goes for Time-brand, you need 4 bpr for 1 to actually affect the monster.
And the low class spell, is that -AC also going to be on touch? I think making it ranged like a magic missile is too powerful (shooting those damn orc unis for 10 turns before meleeing them). But a range of 2 gives you 2 shots before they are next to you. As i'm typing this, this still is pretty powerful... You can shoot-phase around monsters while reducing their AC. So touch is nice, you take a risk to lower their AC instead of their hp.

And what is Time Essentia? A spell? Got restore xp/stats as spell at lvl 40, too bad i got my weapon with the same activation. But i could use a blow or 2 more.

On 13.12.2010 19:00 dzhang wrote:
Yeah, Time Essentia is clvl 45 at the moment, and gives you +2 melee attacks and +1 shot for 3 rounds. At +36 speed, that's more like 13 actions for you.

I was imagining the lower AC thing to be a touch effect.

Monster saves are kinda non-uniform at the moment. For evolution, there's a special save that's race-related. There's the basic Angband saves, in which the monsters almost never fail, and there's the Chengband saves, which monsters you can handle save roughly 60% of the time.

On 13.12.2010 21:04 Arjen wrote:
I need to get some levels then, the +35 speed and the -10 if the spell works makes 3 rounds really worth it.

Clvl 41 now, leveling up a Titan is hard ;)

Just finnished the cloning pits, i should have done that earlier. But the reward was not so good, got the boots of Frodo. And the drops inside were not much better. I only swapped Merry for Colluin. Found some other arts but i'm not going to use them. I did find one nice ego sword. A falcon sword of westernesse, but i like the staff i'm using now even more. The vamp in it is really nice, so a swap for that one needs to have at least vamp.

I'm now going to win the Old Castle i think. Its not that much harder than the Cloning Pits and those were too easy.

On 14.12.2010 13:44 Arjen wrote:
I should really thank you chris for your advice, you revived my character. :)

Finnished some more townquests, i totally forgot that you would get a staff of healing from one... If i only knew that earlier.

The dungeonquests are going fine now. I can kill unique's which i thought would kill me just for the fun of it. My meleedamage is better now, i dont need a lot of healing untill monsters start to breathe/fling stuff at me.

Ill just keep diving in Angband, as i think the other dungeons are not as rewarding as the dungeonquests in Angband.

I can't say I like the suggestions for time effects on monsters. I find it inelegant to have little AC reductions growing cumulatively --- it doesn't really feel very Time-Lordish to me.
Instead, I think time effects should be things like Slow, Sleep, and Paralysis/(Stasis). Spells that do damage while having a chance of causing these effects would play well, I think.

I think also a high level ability "Temporal Fugue" would be cool (ripped from Zelazny's "Creatures of Light and Darkness") --- it doesn't slow monsters or haste the player, it just assigns the player a bunch of extra energy. Kind of like a "Stop Time" effect for the player. (Maybe this already exists? I never got to a very high level with a Time Lord.)
