What is the best possible class for the Tonberry? Why, the ninja, of course. They start at +0 base speed which is *hugely* better than -3 speed. Also, I think the combat damage bonuses disproportionately benefit the ninja, since this class gets biffs to damage from equipment and tends to have lots of blows despite a 4 attack cap (Somehow, my ninjas seem to end up with 13 attacks!).

Now, if I could only pick up the Berserk mutation ;)

Alas, I forgot to cover levitation, and just now, as I type, I realize ninjas have Floating Technique. Damn! That quest was hard without levitation ... I'm rusty :D

Utgard-loke was inside by the Bokrugs, and I'm guessing my Chaos weapon handled him. The toughest monsters were actually the queen ants since they kept surrounding me and causing me to lose my ninja stealth. I guess my AC is a bit too low ...

Well, here is my mutation run ... pretty typical in that 13 mutations netted nothing worth keeping, and plenty I don't want. Levitation and Limber the only mediocre mutations. The thing is, regeneration has completely shut off. I timed it at 1 hour and 17 minutes (game time) to regen 500hp, and that is with regeneration!

If you are having bad luck with mutations, just give up for the night and try again tomorrow! I spotted a Chaos Vortex at the top of the lair and decided to give it a go. The first 9 breaths failed to mutate me, but then I quickly picked up Earthquake (a good mutation, IMHO) and Double Resistance (Wow!). At that point, I scrambled back for my stash of chaos resistance, praying I didn't catch an extra chaos breath sure to inflict something horrible.

Well, ninjas get intrinsic double resistance to poison at CL45, can cast double resistance to acid (Hide in Mud), can cast double resistance to fire (Hide in Flames). That seems to only leave cold and electricity, except that the fire double resistance is super annoying since it comes with a mid range teleport, and then you have to get lucky or race back before it runs out (during which time Quickwalk is very handy). Still, its a lot of extra keystrokes. So, I'm happy with Double Resistance even if Berserk was the mutation I really wanted.

Boy I wish I had shards resistance. I was resting up when 10 Great Wyrms of Law meandered over to play ... So I'm guessing there are 85 more someplace close by. I teleported, of course, and landed next to a pit of 95 Venom Wyrms. Quickly, I dispatched Nappa so he wouldn't wake up and spoil my fun, and teleported another of 2 more GWoL nearby. So, at least 97 of them on the level? I could hit CL50 in a jiffy if only I could resist shards. Ah well. A couple million points of venom xp will have to do ...

But but but... I'm having so much fun with my Snotling Cavalry! (which btw probably shouldn't recoil while riding. It's mildly amusing to see my debug mode lvl 50 cavalry and his GWoP being pushed back 1 square for every arrow.

Recoil is really really useful, once you get past the initial low level annoyance. With 3 shots per round, you get to move 3 squares in the opposite direction of the enemy in the energy it normally takes to move 1 square. And let's not talk about Lazy Archers with 9 shots per round...

My mental picture is of a snotling who's using his arrows as a jetpack...
