This is my character who got through the Void and defeated Melkor. I designed this character for the express purpose of completing the ultra-good ending.

I've used no backup savefiles or other means of fudging for this feat, so it *is* indeed possible to do it. I died once (on the Nameless special level when some jerk summoned a lot of uniques next to me) but I was fortunately praying to Eru at the time and he resurrected me.

I found all of the equipment I was searching for, creating a chracter optimized for both casting power and general survival. This was, however, the first time I've ever found the Gauntlets of Eol (on Mt. Doom, I think), and the randart armor was a very pleasant surprise.

This is my first ladder dump ever; just figured I'd proclaim the feat and bask in the radiance and all...

Just curious, but why did you keep the cloak of air when you were wearing the ring of phasing? There's better cloaks out there.

I had to wear the cloak of Air upon entering the Void, because I didn't have the Ring of Phasing then. Once I got the Ring of Phasing, I couldn't leave the Void, so I just kept the cloak on. My normal cloak was Luthien. I had intended to swap it with the Cloak of Air using the Rod of Home Summoning, but the Rod was misbehaving while I was in the Void.

This char is shown just as he exited the Void, which is when I retired. So his equipment isn't exactly the equipment he wore all game.

Updated Alberich with living data from my file to prevent people from thinking that he died rather than retired.

Why did you play a petty dwarf?

Why thorin? Because of the low combat modifier you have?

I want to start playing a mage now, so doing some ladder research :)

Well, Thorin is just providing Chaos resistance right now. If I could have found a randart shield that gave reflection and res-Chaos, I would've used it. But I value res-Chaos above reflection with this char (with 1600 HP, I can pretty much take any bolt that anybody throws at me).

I commonly use Thorin with mages, however. I consider the two most important stats for spellcasters to be INT (or WIS) and CON. Hit points are EXTREMELY important. Thorin's +4 CON is a perfect choice, especially considering the fact that no other shields increase INT or mana.
