But \Nelwardol is doing real damage and I still haven't found a good launcher, and the defender weapon gives +4 stealth which is SOOOO key for a kinda weak character like mine. The other two weapons provide wisdom/immunity and stealth/damage/immunity. I'll probably end up leaving the two immunity weapons at home, though, but take the defender and the Nalwardol.

Agree with the shovel decision, mostly for the rpoison. Pray do update when you find a key item - decisions on the road are usually more interesting than those for the boss fights.

On DL64 I found a sling of power and had recently bought pebbles of flame from the store in the event I did find a good sling. On DL67 I, without any trouble, raided a 9-9 vault and found a ring of speed +11 and a mace of disruption holy avenger and (drum roll) a good launcher: lorien bow X4 +15. On the same level, on my way to the vault, I also got Nature Craft dropped from a Dreadmaster I was trying to tip toe around, but a plasma vortex breathed on it and I didn't want to use a precious TO charge so I risked fighting it. It was a risk because I had just killed another one before it which had tried to teleport me off the level twice. So that was a weird twist of fortunes; because had it not been for the annoying plasma vortex, who I cursed, I would have just bypassed the dreadmaster.

Oh, and I also got Telepathy on DL63, so, yeah, as things were starting to become difficult, I went from a very tenuous situation to pretty much wrapped up in a very short amount of time! I still carry the other helmet for wisdom and rPois, swapping between telepathy and it depending on the situation, but I forwent the shovel, despite its speed and rPois, preferring to carry stealth and damage.

I used to hate having equipment swaps, but I've gotten pretty used to it over the years. It's so rare I get hit by a big poison breath when I have good stealth, though. (I can't remember the last time it happened), so I don't worry about poison resistance *too* much. For instance, I never wear rPois rings. I will always choose a good mouse ring over =rPois.
