The more I play the Lucky personality, the more noticeable the effects are. This is especially true in the town, where the sheer number of excellent items is astounding! I am actually surprised if the Armoury and Weapon Smiths do not have at least 1 excellent item between them.

Well, this character has been a "Lucky Bastard" so far. DQI even had a Grimoire of Power inside (which I sold, of course). I am sure the RNG is plotting some sort of sneaky revenge ...

I am staying away from the Mine this time ;-P
Legendary[10] stealth enabled me to acquire Sting very early, and I used that until Hagen dropped his spear about 5 minutes ago. +3 speed is very important at this stage, and the extra stealth is appreciated. I am building gold and doing the town circuit every day in hopes of a decent shooter. I passed on a x4 heavy crossbow with +14 to damage earlier, when my gold was much lower. In retrospect, that was probably a mistake.

I just realized that Beld, Ruler of Marmo is one tough cookie. The quest went superbly (other than all of the It and Gachapin drops were crappy, except for Anarion) until I discovered a red 'p' hanging out by the queen ants. Oh, Mario, me thinks. Wrong. It was Beld and he can really hurt! Hiding beside him was a Nycadaemon, and I lack Nether resistance. Wow! It cost 4 !oHealing but I pulled it off, thanks largely to Beld's lack of levitation and the fact that the Nycadaemon did not summon. The queens slept thru the entire battle :)

Taking it slow, hoping for Telepathy. At this depth, I can die in 2 turns to a monster I can't see coming, so better be careful!

I'm trying my best. Still, 400hp/round is the best I can muster so far. A bit low by my standards for a warrior, but I think patience might be required for this character.

Grrrrr ... 5 !oNew Life and Con never broke 18/90 and Life Rating never left the 90%'s. Only the Justice New Life remains. Meanwhile, I biffed my Str as well, so I can no longer wield the lance. Damage per round is now 300, and I can barely kill a Storm Wyrm.

I'm thinking of just junking this character ...

It was a bit ironic that "Lucky Bastard" was having such bad luck, but all of that changed when he discovered a 9d4 scythe of slicing laying on the ground in DL60 of the Dragon's Lair.

Suddenly I can fight again!

2 down, 2 to go. Songmaster and Diatribe are very nice. Now I want Spec and Maelstrom! And that unidentified amulet in the current vault I am facing had better be Telepathy!

Things are coming along nicely now. My stats suck, but that is to be expected when Str and Con are limited to 18/80. -2 from the lucky personality does not help much, nor does the 93% life rating. I will quaff the first !oNewLife that I see ;-)
I do have all resistances covered. I also netted my second Ring of Speed (first was +2), but I need the +4 Reinforce Muscle more.

On 23.11.2005 15:47 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:

Trivial update ... I'm wanting Spec but got some Antimagic Cesti instead with much needed stat boosts. I'm still wanting New Life, and am stockpiling a small arsenal of stat potions for when that happens. And I've managed to lose my shield thanks to Crimson, netting that final attack. I'm dishing out about 1200hp/round against evil folk, so perhaps I will never need to dual wield. That is certainly enough damage for the Serpent.

Outstanding Issues:
[1] Speed. Best rings so far have been +5. I'm heading to the bottom of the lair to attempt to remedy this.
[2] Darkness Resistance from a swap. Right now, Darkness and Telepathy are mutually exclusive. I'd like to keep Sacred Knights because the extra +2 Str helps with damage and the extra speed helps with [1].

But I am quite a load in melee now ... just a few more items like Tulkas to complete my power.

Nice melee damage! 1,000+/round is pretty impressive. Pity you're stuck with Frakir.

I do have a couple of alternatives to Frakir:
[1] Celegorm + BDSM would cover all resists. Lose 1 attack to the shield but gain some AC. I'll probably do this once I get a decent Ring of Speed.
[2] Terror Mask. This would cost me Diatribe, which I'd rather not part with.

And yes Carlammas (if it still exists) would be welcome!

I am now sporting 3 of the new artifacts. I think both Songmaster and Diatribe are uber artifacts, but Bullseye is quite weak. Still, +3 Con is just what the doctor ordered. Potion of New Life #6 pumped my Life Rating up to an impressive (for me!) 102%. Con is unchanged, but Str went from 18/80 to 18/100. I think I will stand pat with this ...

Finally a good ring of speed courtesy of Mephistopheles. I guess I should consider braving the DL88 quest. I'd really like some more staves and rods of healing in case I draw the Destroyer ...

Drew the Destroyer, and it was tough. Down to 100hp 3 times in the battle, but pulled it off. Once when I was at 100hp, I failed to activate a rod of teleport other despite Heroic magic skill. But I got a double move, and teleported the beast away on the second try.

Now !oNewLife #7 *still* left my Con at 18/80 ... that is 8 consecutive rolls of a below average constitution! But Life Rating is now 107%. I swear I am done with New Life!

Got a ?oArtifact Creation in the dungeon ... My BDSM gained +3 Stealth, Int, Searching, Electricity and Fire resistance. Which is to say nothing of note. And I named it "The Worthless One".

I just finished a large vault level with the Chemist inside. Now I could not fight the Chemist without dying, so I had to *Destruct* him. And I had a feeling the unidentified ring in the vault was Tulkas, so I was highly motivated.

Now, should I wear Tulkas or a Ring of Extra Attacks +2? I think I have to take the 205 damage per round hit and wield Tulkas, if only because it maxes out my Con and sets my AC up to a staggering 252. The other option is to drop to a base speed of +22, but with all the Dispel Magic critters ahead, that does not seem wise.

Now where is Spec?

On 24.11.2005 16:48 wrote:
OK, Boromir for Sacred Knights nets 771 damage per round on a measly 6 attacks. Base speed down to +32, which is still awesome. AC 242 and all resistances covered. That will do for the time being ...

Enough has changed to warrant a post:
[1] I am giving dual wielding a go ... this means Terror Mask is on Poison Resistance duty.
[2] Brand and Narya mean Crimson can go. I am slower, but Immunity to Fire is pretty nice.
[3] I am giving up Nexus resistance. I generally never give this up because I rarely have a character not wield Shiva's boots? Will this bite me? I don't think so as my stats are nearly maxed and I don't think Nexus is all that deadly by itself.

I am probably less powerful in this config, but I will give it a try.

Morgoth was a load! At one point, he triple moved on me, but fortunately I was out of his line of sight and he was targetting the square next to me with Mana Storms (2 Mana Storms and one step next to me). He would have killed me otherwise.

He brought in a bunch of uniques, which I killed except for the 2 Q's ... My stats were so drained. Shuma-Gorath I slayed, costing me 2 !o*Healing*. Angels and Archliches were fighting an epic battle, and I spent quite a bit of time trying to clean up. In the end, I decided not to attempt the Qs as they were sitting right next to each other (not necessarily a bad thing!).

I want to kill Nodens, the Q's, and Bahamut and the various dungeon masters before the Serpent. That will leave the ring, the Chemist and the Unicorn for the Serpent to draw on, which he apparently does these days.

Waiting for Nodens to show up ... Where is he? Once slain, then it will take an hour or so to kill the various dungeon masters. And then it is time for the Serpent!

In the meantime, I am collecting resources in case I decide to let the Chemist kill me again. Without Spec, however, I might not even bother ;-)

***WINNER***
Well, I spent 3 hours killing Shooting Star, Chameleon Lord, Layzark, Vecna and Cthulhu. That left Jormungand and Null, but I could not stand another couple hours to kill those two, so the final battle was on.

The Unicorn was summoned twice and the Chemist three times while fighting the Serpent. Now this is scary. But perhaps the Serpent has a bigger range of sensitivity, because I would just teleport and only the Serpent would come to me (the level was flooded if that makes a difference).

Now, the question is should I retire or should I pursue the Chemist? Ordinarily, I would just retire at this point. But perhaps Brian would appreciate more characters exploring how overpowered the Chemist actually is? The bad news is that this warrior is about 1/2 as powerful as my Archer (yes, an Archer!!!) in melee. Without the guantlets of ultimate destruction, I do not know if I actually stand a chance ...

On 25.11.2005 03:02 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:
First go at the Chemist failed. He regained hp faster than the 800+hp I was dealing per round, mostly because the TY_CURSE would summon evil monsters and he would heal himself in their presence after I was teleported away by the curse. I got 3 stars of the chemist, fought for 20 or so minutes, and he is back to full hp. I probably fought long enough to do the 30,000hp required to kill him, but when I destructed him, he was at full health. I will need Spec to even stand a chance!

He stopped time 5 or 6 times and I survived them all ... but it is a matter of time before he kills me while the world is stopped.

Oh, the Unicorn was still alive and kept getting summoned. To put things in perspective, I just killed the Unicorn with 1/10th the effort (read healing) I put into the Chemist.

That should read 500+ hp per round on my initial Chemist attempt. I had to shuffle in Antimagic guantlets and the Chemist is most definitely not evil.

I think next time I will go with Grond. 9d9 with Slay Human plus 100lbs of critical should be good. I only get 5 attacks so I am hoping for Spec and a ring of extra attacks +3 to boost that up to 10 attacks per round. I think that would get the job done!

Tired of waiting for Spec, Maelstrom, and a non-shield form of resist poison, I decided that it is time for a final crack at the chemist.

Human: Attack: 665-1925 damage

Decent damage on as few hits as possible. Oh, and I can no longer teleport ;-)

I am so worn out, I just retired leaving the Plain Gold Ring and the Arena for another day. But I accomplished the impossible, and destroyed the Chemist!!

Nice job there. :) The chemist for sure is tough. I defenitly won't stop after the serpent kill as well when... if I make it down there. Basicly the chemist is the one thing (beside certain arts) that seperates Heng from Entro. I would even go so far and vote for a final boss change, making the Chemist kill required to get the winner title.

I must say, I'm rather shocked at how low your to-hit bonus is. My tourist is currently sporting a +138 (admittedly that's with heroism, berserk, and holy chant running), and I would have expected rather better from anyone going after the Chemist.
