As for damage dealing, any spellcaster can get to level 50 in mana and spell power, and don't forget melee and missile attacks.:

Archery skill gives you a stack of nice artifact arrows sooner or later, which pairs well with a long bow of lothlorien or similar. Arrows of acid and other egos seem not uncomon, too.

For melee, think Mormegil. Gobs and Gobs of damage. Just wait until I get the One and Mormegil with a Swordmaster. It'll be the most damage you can do this side of a Possessor in the Watcher in the Water. (yes, don't forget possessors either). So sorcerors are potent, but they aren't *that* much better than other classes in the game.
