*really* much experience per kill... Wyrms of Balance, perhaps, but they are seldom seen : (...

I found a great Mace of Distruption... And it can kill almost any creature in a maximum of 2 turns..!!! The problem is that it weighs a lot and that it leaves me with only 5 blows per turn... And it doesn't give Elrathi +10 to speed as Ringil does... So I think the change won't be permanent. Probably I'll take back Ringil after whacking some hapless creatures with this one for a while = )...

Hmmm, reviewing this character, I must say I disagree with using Deathwreaker. The One makes all its side benefits obsolete, and since you're a warrior you could have a sixth attack with Ringil or Thunderfist, which would vastly increase your damage. That's just me, though, and I still think overall this is probably one of the most powerful characters on the ladder.

P.S. Watch for my third winner, coming soon to a ladder near you! ;o)

Very, very nice character... even from my ToME perspective. ;)

A rookie (that is to say: not a newbie, yet still to beat even one instance of *Band) here to say: your character is a source of inspiration to us all. Inspiration to train an even better one, that is.

Right now, I'm perfecting my scumming skills to build my first winner and then train diligently, to put ToME on it's rightful place on top of The Ladder.

Unless my girlfriend bans me from playing roguelikes, which is more and more likely overtime.

Also, do you think a mage charactercould make it to the top of the ladder?

On 19.8.2006 12:50 baryy@hotmail.com wrote:
The only way to get to the top of the ladder now is to have submitted your char before Elrathi Seth and reach 99999999 xp, at least that was the case before ecks. Now you must get level greater than 75

On 20.8.2006 11:40 AnonymousHero wrote:
Yeah, I'm hoping Pav can do something about the level thing -- IMHO the overall ladder should only be based on EXP and submission date since that is still the same across all the roguelikes I know of. I really don't like having such a scummy character as Ecks at the top of the overall ladder :/. I was more or less just doing that character to prove a point.

On 20.8.2006 11:45 pav wrote:
I think the ranking on overall ladder have little meaning, anyway. You just can't compare dumps from different variants just by numbers.

On 21.8.2006 00:02 risto.holmstrom@kolumbus.fi wrote:
Anyways, if some linear ranking algorithm had to be constructed, the one in use now is probably the most impartial configuration. Afterall, I consider vanilla to be the most difficult variant in means of boosting a character, and I also consider the submission date to be rationally fair: those who went through the trouble of obsessively hacking their way to the top of the ladder in ancient times should have the privilege of sustaining their thrones from the hands of the uprising new ladder-usurpers. I was the first to battle to the top and I see my positioning on the ladder as fair recognition for the effort.
This is of course a bit tardy for the newer eager gamers, that I don't deny, but it would be twicefold as foul for us oldies to be succeeded by freshly spawned chars.

He's playing without Maximize, where the maximum possible stat is 18/100 regardless of race and class bonuses. I think it used to be mandatory and Maximize was added later, but I'm not 100%

but my question is, it appears here that he ROLLED or somehow generated 18/100 in everything, right when he started the character, yes? I'm kind of new to Angband, but I don't know how to make a character that's all 18/100 stats...

On 30.4.2009 16:28 prions48@gmail.com wrote:
There are stat potions (potion of strength, etc) that raise your permanent stat. They start turning up usually somewhere in the 20s and are common by the 50s. Ain't no one I know who could *start* with stats anything like those

The 'Self' column shows the character's *current* innate stats, which as the other guy said, can be raised by potions. It doesn't show the original rolled stats. :)

On 3.5.2009 18:13 risto.holmstrom@kolumbus.fi wrote:
Hey all, back to converse after many many years :)

Indeed, the character had originally rolled pretty poor stats. Thanks to stat potions it was possible to boost up to 18/100 given a generally long amount of time.

Also, given that it's been an awful many years since I played this char (and it was an old version of vanilla, too), I can't remember whether this was played with or without Maximize. Anyhow, nice to see this dump discussed after 3 years of silence :D

Thanks for the info. I'm kind of getting back into angband now. Didn't get very far before. It's nice to see a sheet like this and see just how crazy the numbers get!

Used to play Rogue on my dad's 8086 back in the mid-80's. Never did win that either.

Thanks dude - indeed it's really been 8 years! That's nearly a decade; in other words, a damn long time :)

I had something like 20 characters die before this one made it through. It's a tough game. Personally I still enjoy vanilla the most, partly because it's the one with the most balanced gameplay, partly because it's pure nostalgy.

I encourage thee: play it through, be it in 10 years or whatever, but it's a trophy you won't forget.
